Description This is very responsible administrative and accounting work coordinating the monthly board bill and inmate credits for the Maury County correctional facility. Activities associated with the job include completing the monthly board bill, reporting inmate credits, and corresponding with inmates on sentencing guidelines and related matters. Additional activities include reporting pre-trail credits, creating and updating inmate time records for those serving sentences, reviewing and correcting booking entries of sentencing papers, maintaining statistical information and preparing reports for submission to local, state and federal agencies on a monthly basis. Job responsibilities require strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal and decision making skills, considerable knowledge of sentencing guidelines and correctional facility operations, considerable experience performing accounting duties and the ability to deal with detailed and complex information in a consistently accurate manner. Job performance is reviewed by the Operations Captain through the accuracy and thoroughness of administrative and accounting activities, knowledge of correctional facility operations and sentencing guidelines, interpersonal, organizational and decision making skills and the ability to perform all job duties in a consistent and accurate manner. Job duties are also subject to state and federal audits. Requirements Graduation from an accredited high school supplemented with additional course work in crime prevention, criminal law and/or law enforcement; experience working in a juvenile and/or adult correctional facility; ability to interact effectively with inmates, trustees, co-workers and the public; sufficient physical strength to perform work related activities and react to emergency situations; strong organizational, administrative and decision making skills; considerable experience performing bookkeeping and/or accounting functions; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities and skills: -Thorough knowledge of the time computations including pretrial credits, work and behavior credits, etc. involved with computing inmates sentences in accordance with TCA regulations. -Thorough knowledge of TDOC rules and regulations governing the intake, placement, release and transfer of inmates including utilization of the TDOC computer database. -Thorough knowledge of billing procedures associated with housing TDOC inmates prior to transfer to a state facility. -Thorough knowledge of the Social Security Administration rules and regulations pertaining to the suspension and/or reinstatement of benefits. -Considerable knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures applicable to the maintenance of financial ledgers, checking accounts, receipt of funds, etc. -Considerable knowledge of Tennessee Code Annotated Sections 39 and 55 pertaining to civil and criminal law, statutes, ordinances and regulations. -Considerable knowledge of Federal, State and Maury County laws and ordinances and correctional facility policies and procedures. -Considerable knowledge of the regulations pertaining to indigent inmates including all available benefits and required commissary items. -Ability to maintain detailed financial records and related documents in an organized and accessible manner. -Ability to perform financial and accounting transactions in a consistent, accurate and thorough manner. -Ability to prioritize daily, weekly and monthly activities to ensure completion of all job assignments and meet established deadlines and reporting requirements. -Ability to react quickly and appropriately to potentially dangerous or volatile situations to ensure the safety of others. -Ability to perform the physically demanding requirements of the job. -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, emergency management personnel and clientele. -Ability to make appropriate and timely decisions based upon the information and resources available. -Ability to acquire and utilize new job related information as required. -Ability to document and maintain accurate logs of information and personal activities. -Skill in the use of software programs including proprietary, database management, word processing and spreadsheet applications. Necessary Special Requirements -All Sheriff Department personnel are required to maintain the highest standards of integrity, honesty and ethical behavior and conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner at all times whether or not they are performing job related duties. -Must be at least 18 years of age. -Certification by a qualified professional in the psychiatric or psychological fields as free of all apparent mental disorders as described in the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association. -Certification by a licensed physician designated by the agency as physically capable of performing necessary duties. -Fingerprints must be on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. -Must be a United States citizen. -Can not have been convicted or plead guilty, or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances. -Can not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. -Tennessee Correctional Institute certification required for basic jail operations, 40 hours in-service training annually, and fingerprinting (8 hrs.). -Possession of a valid Tennessee Drivers License and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates. -Current certification on the TDOC automated system.
