OverviewWorld Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world's leading conservation organizations, seeks a Coastal Ecosystem Restoration, Senior Specialist to support WWF teams and its Global Mangrove Alliance partners.Major FunctionThe Senior Specialist will focus on implementing best practices for mangrove restoration, with a strong emphasis on supporting the integration of science and evidence-based approaches and providing support and training on Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) for various mangrove restoration approaches. Under the supervision of the Lead Marine Scientist for Oceans, the Coastal Ecosystem Restoration Senior Specialist will develop training materials, deliver training , and support and conduct MEL activities related to mangrove restoration for WWF teams and Global Mangrove Alliance partners. This will include delivering information on best practices for Mangrove Restoration and supporting teams with using the Mangrove Restoration Tracking Tool, as well as other similar WWF and Global Mangrove Alliance tools. Training and support will be delivered both virtually and in person globally - requiring flexibility around scheduling calls based on time zones and some international travel. The Coastal Ecosystem Restoration Senior Specialist will lead and contribute to the development of scientific products documenting key aspects of mangroves and other coastal restoration progress.Duration: Limited Term 2 years.Salary: The expected compensation range for this position is $88,300 - $110,300.Responsibilities* Develops training materials and delivers training on mangrove forest restoration best practices with a strong focus on best practices for MEL, incorporating the Mangrove Restoration Tracking Tool.* Builds coastal ecosystem restoration capacity for field teams, with a focus on best practices for restoration and MEL within WWF and Global Mangrove Alliance conservation programs.* Proactively engages with WWF teams and Global Mangrove Alliance partners to ensure and support the adoption of mangrove restoration tracking for key initiatives.* Conduct data analysis and evaluate the status and trends in mangrove and coastal conservation restoration globally and for priority regions which are written up in appropriate scientific outputs.* Works collaboratively within WWF and the Global Mangrove Alliance to translate and communicate relevant coastal ecosystem restoration insights into WWF and Global Mangrove Alliance guidance and practice.* Support coordination efforts and the communication of mangrove restoration work to ensure it informs programmatic work for WWF and the Global Mangrove Alliance as well as externally to interested institutions, donors, partner organizations, and the general public through publications and presentations.* Builds/strengthens collaborations with academic, research, or evaluation experts.* Performs other duties as assigned.Key Competencies* Communication: Must be able to represent and communicate well (give technical presentations to high-level and non-technical audiences).* Interpersonal Communication and Collaboration: Collaborate on projects and stakeholders, with the ability to work effectively to drive a common agenda/goal-strong teamwork environment across multiple organizations (including different NGOs).* Cross-Cultural Communication: Able to speak and relate to people from various backgrounds and experience levels. (or someone with an international background).* Solution-Oriented, Strategic Collaboration: Having to share data between organization and how to navigate the results of the data.QualificationsRequired Skills and Experience* MUST HAVE 6+ years of program science, technical program writing and/or publication experience is required-AND some form of general coastal ecosystem experience AND restoration awareness. (Advanced degree with 3 to 5 years experience.)*
  • MA or PhD strongly preferred.* MUST HAVE International Experience - working cross functionally with other people and organizations.* Experience with mangrove restoration work in one or more countries is highly desirable.* Experience with the monitoring, evaluation, or assessment of coastal restoration work or related biodiversity conservation projects/conservation science fields is essential.* Experience in developing presentations and/or training materials for use by field teams is highly desired.* Experience in developing actionable scientific products and relating technical information for diverse audiences (e.g. policymakers, NGOs, etc) is strongly desired.* Strong analytical skills, including quantitative and/or qualitative, are required.
