Job Details: Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:10 am to 3:10 pm. Weekend rotation with other leads/managers is Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm (approximately 3 times a year). Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs. Minimum Requirements

Position Summary:
  • This position is responsible for the supervision of team members engaged in the daily care of flocks from placement to selection by performing all essential duties. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Calculates pen size based upon hatchery projections for flock placement (10%)
  • Supervises and assists workers with the installation of metal & wire partitions to form accurate sized pens for bird placement, distributing feed into feed trays and hanging feeders by carrying buckets, flushing water lines by turning flush valve, maintaining pen bedding to animal welfare standards, using broom/brush to clear dust from equipment (fans, inlets, etc.), using digital scales to obtain average weight of each pen by weighing 10% of flock, collecting lab samples by using boot swabs for environment and cleft pallet swabs for birds, collecting, recording wing band, and disposing of flock mortality, and maintaining rat bait stations inside house(s) by placing/replacing clean bait (40%)
  • Monitors daily care of flock by observing flock for signs of injury/illness and euthanize according to animal welfare policy, monitoring house environment and making equipment/control adjustments accordingly based on animal welfare guidelines, verifying feed/water/environmental control systems working properly and report any issues for correction, and using a backpack sprayer weekly to administer vaccine and maintains log (40%)
  • Lead positions must currently have and consistently maintain 4 attendance points or less. (100%)
Other duties, responsibilities, and activities:
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. Such as: Apply insecticides, maintain vehicle by checking fluid levels, filters, tire pressure, and clean/disinfect to remove debris, operate a high pressure and regular water hose, maintains foot pans and hand sanitizer, complete required safety inspections, maintains a clean and organized work/break area. (10%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements:
  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and carry feed weighing up to 30 pounds, backpack sprayer weighing up to 50 pounds, and will occasionally be required to lift and carry bundles of shavings weighing up to 12 pounds. Will occasionally be required to pull/push up to 500 pounds (wheeled carts). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climb ladder; stoop/bend; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Tools and Equipment: Requires the use of hand tools such as pitchfork, broom, hammer, pliers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, light bulb changer; power tools such as drill; safely operate vehicle to and from work area.
  • Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required when handling disinfectants. Must wear company provided facial covering. Ear plugs may be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators may be worn as needed.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants, cleaners, lubricants, spray foam, vehicle fluids.
  • Safety: Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
