Grade 21 Salary Range: $39,531.42 - $53,760.78 depending on experience. Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts inspections and performs plan reviews.
- Maintain records on all inspections, documents violations, and re-inspects location as necessary.
- Interprets and applies codes and regulations; explains and answer questions regarding the application.
- Develops, distributes, files, updates, and maintains all records and correspondence according to regulation.
- Interacts with licensing boards to ensure work is performed by licensed contractors.
- Receives and investigates complaints between owners and contractors.
- Issues Stop work orders; documents these orders in detail.
- Investigates complaints of the work being done without permit.
- Conducts on-site inspections and investigations.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent; three (3) years to five (5) years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses or Certifications:Possession of a valid, State of North Carolina driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Must possess or be able to obtain Level I certification in: Building, Electrical, Fire, Mechanical, and Plumbing within 3 years of employment. Must be willing and able to work in the Cashiers or Sylva offices. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of County and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, members of the general public and other groups involved in the activities of the County as they relate to the department.
