DescriptionThis position is responsible for the preparation of cold food items to both patient and retail areas. This position utilizes production sheets, forecasting, recipes, and equipment.Essential Job FunctionsPatient and retail servicesPrepares food according to recipes and production sheets to meet the department's standards for quality as measured by appearance, taste, temperature and portion sizes.Accurately completes production sheet data to include usage, yields, and leftoversProperly labels products for retail saleEnsures floor stock items and supplies are available for nursing unitsFills in for cross-trained roles in the departmentRegulatory/SanitationMaintains work area in a sanitary manner; completes cleaning dutiesPrepares, serves, and stores foods according to HACCP guidelinesPractices good hygiene including hand washing, wearing hair restraints, and glove usageUtilizes FIFO when obtaining foods from storage areasSafetyUses equipment in a safe manner; reports any issues immediatelyCleans equipment according to established guidelinesRefers to and follows MSDS guidelines for chemical usage and storageUses proper body techniques in lifting, carrying, pushing and pullingService ExcellencePerforms excellent customer service skills with all customers and coworkersAnswers questions about prepared café food itemsHandles service recovery immediately or involves supervisor as neededReceives and distributes all messages in a timely mannerOther duties as assigned.Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]Required Qualifications/ExperienceHigh School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.Zero (0) to One (1) years of experience in food production or food service.Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.Good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, and sound judgment.General mathematic ability to calculate or modify recipes.Able to operate small and large kitchen equipment.Able to read and interpret menus and recipes.Preferred Qualifications/ExperienceAssociate or bachelor's degree in culinary arts preferred.One (1) to Two (2) years' experience in Cold Food ProductionExperience in Healthcare setting.License, Certification & ClearancesServSafe Food Safety Certification preferred.Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police systemPosition Type/Expected Hours of WorkIncumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).Travel may be expected locally between System locations.Equal Employment OpportunityIndependence Health and its affiliated companies are Equal Opportunity Employers.
