DescriptionEducation Alliance College AmbassadorService Location: Pierpont Community & Technical College;Living Allowance: $5,000.00 per termEducation Award: $2,417.14 per termEligibility: Must be a citizen, national, or Lawful, permanent resident alien of the UnitedStates and successfully complete a criminal background checkCollege Ambassadors are required to make an 8-month commitment to the program. A portion of the member's time isspent in training and service projects. Members are required to attend personal and professional development trainingsthroughout the service year. The following outlines the general performance expectations:AmeriCorps Member Requirements1. High school graduate or GED required2. Current community and technical college student is preferred3. Strong interest in education4. Experience working with college eligible age individuals, families, and education professionals preferred5. Must be responsible, organized and self-motivated6. Must maintain positive attitude and display patience in work setting7. Become an integrated member of your assigned service site AmeriCorps Member Duties1. Identify graduating seniors and adults who would be interested in enrolling at a local postsecondary institution and facilitate their enrollment.2. Serve as a coach who supports the college application and enrollment process by: a. Assist students with the college and West Virginia Invest application process b. Facilitate the process of how postsecondary credits and/or prior learning can be applied to a certificate or degree c. Support the completion of the FAFSA d. Serve as a liaison between the college and students to provide proper resources to ensure student success e. Facilitate pre-college enrollment activities3. Maintain confidentiality, including FAFSA confidentiality, at all times4. Maintain appropriate records5. Complete all member forms and reports by the due date (time sheets, mileage reimbursement, etc.)6. Meet deadlines for all data reporting requirements7. Attend and participate in all training sessions (on site, local and statewide) and AmeriCorps service projects8. Complete a Personal Action Plan and work toward its goals and objectives throughout the year9. Develop and adhere to a schedule that ensures completion service requirements10. Keep Site Supervisor informed of progress and/or problems11. Adhere to all rules and policies of The Education Alliance and your assigned service site12. Not participate in prohibited activities during service hours or when wearing AmeriCorps gear (see section XI)AmeriCorps members are not employees; they are National Service members who fall into a special category under the Internal Revenue code that is neither employee nor contracted service provider. However, the Internal Revenue Service does consider the living allowance to be income and is taxable.The AmeriCorps living allowance will not affect your eligibility for most needs-based federal programs, including Food Stamps and Section 8 housing. Other benefits that are not affected by the AmeriCorps living allowance include WIC, job training, Pell grants, and VA benefits. However, the living allowance does count as earned income for programs funded under the Social Security Act, including TANF, SSI, and Medicaid.
