We actively seek and encourage applications from women, people of color, persons with disabilities, and individuals with protected veteran status.NOTICE OF VACANCYCLA Chemistry LabClassification: College Lab Assistant 2 Unlimited, Full-time Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm, some evening shifts will be required. * $2.25 shift differential applied to hours worked after 6:00pmSalary Range: Hourly from $21.57 to $30.98; Annually from $45,038 to $64,686*Salary placement is dependent on education and experienceThe vacancy is posted on-line from Friday 11/14/2024 - Monday 12/02/2024.THE POSITION AND THE DEPARTMENTThe purpose of the position is to prepare, set up, and manage waste for chemistry lab experiments, maintain lab equipment and inventory, provide work direction and assist students in a college chemistry laboratory, request and monitor the department budget, maintain records and files, assist students in the Chemistry Help Center (CHC), and work with faculty to develop and revise laboratory exercises. Chemistry CLAs work in tandem to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the student lab area and prep areas.This position reports to the Dean of STEM and works collaboratively with Chemistry faculty, Lab staff and student workers to actively advance the college's strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.YOUR QUALIFICATIONSEssential:
  • Associate degree or higher in chemistry AND 1 academic year of teaching/tutoring experience in chemistry at the high school level or above OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred:
  • A bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field would be helpful, and/or formal training in secondary education.
  • Experience working in an academic teaching chemistry laboratory.
