TITLE: College Public Safety Officer I Part Time

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

* Maintains order on campus and be able to provide safety at all campuses, 24/7.

* Performs security work, fire prevention; emergency management and law enforcement and crime prevention duties.

* Patrols buildings, grounds and parking areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle to maintain order, protect persons and property, control traffic, provide first aid and to prevent trespassing, theft or damage.

* Investigates complaints made directly to Public Safety-SCCC or assigned investigations from the administration.

* Enforces the laws of the State of New York and federal higher education laws by assisting law enforcement by providing them with reports/information on incidents

* Secures and checks all doors, windows and entrances to building to be sure that they are secure.

* Assures that all doors and entrances are unlocked for daily activities and classes.

* Makes regularly scheduled fire inspections of building s and fire extinguishers.

* Makes operational checks of a variety of heating and cooling equipment, reporting any malfunctions.

* Controls and directs traffic on campus or campus related roads, grounds and parking areas.

* Investigates motor vehicle accidents that occur on campus or campus related property. Manages traffic on adjacent campus roads during incidents.

* Issues parking Violation Tickets.

* Enforces the Student Code of Conduct; testifies in hearings and criminal courts.

* Performs assists to motorists, e.g. Lock-outs, dead batteries and other vehicular problems.

* Gives directions and information to students and visitors.

* Contacts snow removal contractor/grounds crew when necessary.

* Responds to intrusion alarms and fire alarms.

* Files electronic reports and maintains an appropriate system of records and reports. Manages database for reports; scans reports; uses MS products.

* Will be required to conduct Title IX and NYS Sexual Misconduct investigations.

* Provide transportation to other campuses for special events and meetings. Be able to operate central dispatch operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1) Candidates must successfully pass a qualifying psychological evaluation authorized by the

Suffolk County Department of Civil Service.

2) Candidates must successfully pass a qualifying medical evaluation authorized by the Suffolk

County Department of Civil Service.

3) Upon appointment, candidates must apply for, and maintain registration as a guard with the

New York State Department of State, Division of Licensing Services.

4) Possession of a valid New York State driver's license at the time of appointment; appointees must maintain a valid license throughout their employment in this title.

HIRING SALARY:

Multiple shifts at all lcoations. This position is for twenty (20) hours per week

Days $16.98

Evenings $18.68
