Job Type Full-timeDescriptionGreenStar offers generous time off benefits & affordable and flexible health care options!Purpose: To check out customer purchases, to provide prompt, friendly, and courteous customer service, answer customer questions, maintain customer memberships and place special orders for customers. To keep all products and displays fully stocked, attractive and cleaned. Help maintain coffee & tea bar, keep café seating area clean, and perform proper opening and closing procedures as outlined by the store manager and Manager On Duty.   • Check out customer purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices and department codes.
  • Call for back-up as needed to minimize customers' wait times for checkout.
  • Handle all customer needs and complaints in a courteous, respectful, and efficient manner.
  • Become familiar with co-op policies in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to Manager On Duty or store manager.
  • Understand member discount program and inform shoppers about Membership options.
  • Handle EBT, CitiBucks and coupons accurately.
  • Assist customers while placing and picking up special orders.
  • Answer phone calls in a timely fashion and handle messages if necessary.
  • Keep busy during slow periods by performing tasks on stocking and cleaning checklist or as directed by Manager On Duty or store manager.
  • Re-stock self-service items (paper napkins, utensils, etc.) in café.
  • Maintain coffee & tea bar.
  • Work with a sense of urgency and purpose.
PREPARED FOODS HANDLING & STOCKING
  • Follow proper procedures for receiving, handling, and storing prepared foods
  • Ensure freshness of prepared food items by rotating product, spot checking for quality, and checking sell by dates
GROCERY & PERISHABLE STOCKING
  • Follow and maintain daily operations according to established protocols and checklists.
  • Stock shelves and displays fully without overcrowding & rotate stock.
  • Ensure items on shelves and displays are labeled accurately and clearly with price tags and sale signs.
  • Notify buyer of out-of-stocks.
  • Pull short-date or low-quality items and notify Manager before disposing of them properly.
  • Maintain cleanliness of Collegetown Store.
PRODUCE STOCKING
  • Piece check every delivery against the invoice for quality and accuracy.
  • Pull any wilted or rotting produce and keep baskets and displays cleaned and wiped down.
  • Keep back stock separated by organic and conventional. Make sure all boxes are rotated and visible.
  • Make sure displays and cases are full at all times.
  • Notify store Manager or Manager On Duty of any mispicks, shortages or out of stocks.
  • Make sure all signs have proper price, country of origin and item listed.
RECEIVING AND MAINTENANCE
  • Check deliveries to verify piece count, notify purchaser of discrepancies.
  • Check for damage and unacceptable quality, notify purchaser of problems.
  • Organize overstock into storage.
  • Keep shelves, coolers and backstock area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Keep department equipment in assigned areas and in working order.
  • Advise Collegetown Store Manager of equipment problems.
  • Participate in periodic inventory.
  • Help with unloading as needed.
  • Route invoices to buyer.
  • Maintain sales floor and backstock as outlined in training and protocols.
DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
  • See that unsaleable items are properly disposed of. Keep accurate shrinkage records.
  • Ensure that produce bins, aisles, shelves and storage areas are clean, orderly, and meet health standards.
  • Remove trash promptly; sweep floor as needed.
  • Participate in inventory counts.
  • Ensure maintenance of department equipment and notify manager if equipment breaks.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follow GreenStar's safety rules.
  • Assist other employees in safety needs.
  • Report unsafe equipment and conditions.
  • Participate in safety training programs.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES
  • Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
  • Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
  • Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
  • Describe membership benefits, and how membership investment is made.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Effective interpersonal communication with team members and customer.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Open to input/feedback on work performance.
  • Open to giving input/feedback on Collegetown Store.
  • Self-Driven/Motivated throughout shift.
  • Knowledge or interest in learning about natural foods, produce, local farms.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
