Commercial Permit Technician l: $20.30-$30.46/hr.
Commercial Permit Technician ll: $22.33-$33.50/hr.
Commercial Permit Technician lll: $27.02-$40.54/hr.
These are non-exempt (hourly) positions. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant's salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.

POSITION SUMMARY
Perform paraprofessional work in support of construction or project management activities. This position, under direct supervision, is responsible for gathering and collecting technical data; reviewing construction plans to gather information; reviewing permit packages; providing information to customers; and account receivables. Classification level & pay determination based upon education and experience.
Who will I be working with?
Permit Technicians (Engineering Technicians) on the Commercial Permitting Team will be working with Contractors, Engineers, Architects, Owners, Inspectors, Plan Review Staff, and other Agencies on most Commercial projects within Mecklenburg County. Interactions will be in person or via phone, e-mail, or text.
What Will I Be Doing?
Permit Technician l - Permit issuance; answering telephones and responding to emails to provide information to customers; staffing service points that require in-person interactions; scanning paper documents; issuance of temporary certificates of occupancy and certificates of occupancy; other duties as assigned.
Permit Technician ll - Support of all Permit Technician l duties as well as processing review fees; coordinating and scheduling review of plans and express reviews, scheduling overtime inspections, scheduling inspections by appointment; scheduling, attending, and interacting in preliminary and pre-permitting meetings; data entry; other duties as assigned.
Permit Technician lll - Support of all Permit Technician l and ll duties as well as ensure plans submitted for commercial plan review meet minimum submittal guidelines and formatting; provides final acceptance of plans to be submitted for plan review; educates customers and employees on processes to submit plans; other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Permit Technician I - Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in the area of assignment.
Permit Technician II - Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the area of assignment.
Permit Technician III - Minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in the area of assignment
Education:
Permit Technician I, ll, lll - Associate Degree in Engineering, Construction, Surveying or Real Estate
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes
Licenses and Certifications (based on the area of expertise):
Permit Technician I - May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License; may require County Driving Privileges; Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required, depending upon the area of assignment.
Permit Technician II - Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License. May obtain and maintain a Mecklenburg County Operator's Permit.
Permit Technician III - Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License. May obtain and maintain a Mecklenburg County Operator's Permit.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Permit Tech l - International Code Council Permit Technician Certification
Permit Tech ll - International Code Council Permit Technician Certification, 1 year of construction, engineering, architectural, or related field experience
Permit Tech lll - International Code Council Permit Technician Certification, 2 years of construction, engineering, architectural, or related field experience
