With locations in New York City, LA and Chicago, a nationwide e-commerce and wholesale business, international locations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and an emerging Grocery business in the US, Magnolia Bakery's whimsical spin on classic, American desserts is now in every neighborhood.Cake Icer (Long Island City Commissary) What is the Role?Position Summary: Responsible for icing cakes, specialty orders and cakes for the house and the icing of specialty cupcakes. Train all new cake icers and retrain existing cake icers on new or seasonal product. Uphold the core values of the organization and its mission while consistently presenting and promoting brand integrity, product quality and customer service standards.
- Must maintain and work within Magnolia standards, which include color palette, cake design and quality.
- Responsible for trimming, assembling, icing, filling, and attractively finishing cake layers with inscriptions and decorations.
- Prepares and tints icings and any other necessary items needed for decorating or special events and orders.
- Ensures quality control of product before putting out for sale.
- Keeps work area neat, equipment cleaned, and prepared for use.
- All cake icers must demonstrate, enforce or train if necessary, on safe food handling practices and follow safety procedures for using equipment and cleaning supplies.
- Cake Icers are responsible for operating and monitoring proper functioning of equipment; following safety procedures for using equipment; sanitize work area during and after use.
- Cake Icers are responsible for maintaining their own icer's kits.
- Assist in training new cake icers and retraining existing cake icers as needed on Magnolia recipes, standards and procedures.
- Aid in organizing and enforcing proper station set-up for all shifts.
- Must be able to execute all prep items from prep baker position.
- Maintains and enforces finished product specs, standards and quality.
What are the physical demands?
- Position requires standing and walking for period of 3-5 hours without a rest break.
- Frequent use of hands.
- Occasionally required to climb, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, or crouch.
- Occasional moderate to heavy (10+lb) lifting and carrying.
- Work environment includes working with hot cooking equipment.
What is Required?
- Hours of work for the position are approximately 40-45 hours per week.
- 6-12 months experience with cake decorating.
- Knowledge and use of cake decorating equipment, tools, icings, ingredients etc.
- Hands-on, flexible and highly responsive.
- Strong communication skills.
- Reading and writing skills.
- Posses the ability to handle high stress and volume.
- High energy, positive person who can work with a diverse group of people.
- Follows policies and procedures
- Takes directions well and hits the ground running.
- Understands expectations of role and works within the boundaries of the role.
