CART work will happen onsite in various environments on and off-campus, including, classes, work settings, interviews, presentations, conferences, and tours. Remote platforms will also be used for some requests and events. The direct service responsibilities will be balanced with working closely with our team of CART providers, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Services team, and units at UW to provide consultation and trainings for partners.

Responsibilities:
Provides remote and onsite CART captioning services utilizing stenographic equipment and software to produce a real-time, verbatim transcript for auditory access for all levels of complexity for academic and non-academic campus events. Produce, edit, and sync realtime captioning files for post-production captioning for campus media.
* 65% Provides Communication Access Realtime Access (CART), for all levels of complexity for academic and non-academic campus events
* 5% Utilizes all platforms and campus tools necessary for onsite or remote access
* 20% Updates dictionaries and relevant software to prepare for campus requests
* 5% Develops and provides training materials for various stakeholders related to CART and works with populations who are Deaf or hard of hearing
* 5% Assists with the development of unit programming and trainings

Qualifications:
Required:
* Three years of realtime writing experience in post-secondary environment for a variety of subjects.
* Phonetic aptitude for writing realtime at an average minimum speed of 180+ WPM and 95%+ accuracy rate.
* Working knowledge of and skilled troubleshooting experience with realtime captioning software programs, such as Eclipse.
* Working knowledge of and skilled at troubleshooting issues with delivery platforms, such as Streamtext and Zoom, and other related technology related.
* Comfortable projecting captions for display to an audience.
* Ability to travel across a large campus with necessary equipment.
* Extensive steno dictionaries and experience providing CART for speakers with a variety of identities and topics.
Preferred:
* Certification as a Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC), Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) strongly preferred. Other certifications may be considered with relevant realtime experience
* Awareness and comfort in working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing consumers, including knowledge or desire to learn sign language; working knowledge of disability and accessibility.
* Experience with navigating Learning Management systems (e.g. Canvas) to find preparation materials and connecting to remote audio sources.
* Ability to use math symbols when requested by consumer.

It is expected that one will make between $65,520 and $76,710 annually in this hourly position. The hourly rate for this position will depend on experience and qualifications. In this University Staff position, CART providers are paid for their time providing CART, their preparation time, and setup or travel time for a total of 40 hours per week at the hourly rate. This position also qualifies for shift differentials (between 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) and compensatory time or overtime for hours over 40 in a week. Hiring Bonus up to $3,000 for this position. This would be paid as one installment payment on their first paycheck.
