Job Description:

Supports patient care unit activities through the performance of clerical, reception, and chart maintenance functions. Works in cooperation with other health team members.

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Assists visitors, families, physicians and patients in meeting their needs.

* Performs the clerical functions necessary to record information such as physicians' orders, dietary requirements, and medication information.

* Answers telephone and intercom calls and provides information or relays messages to patients and the medical staff.

* Prepares discharge notices.

* Requisitions supplies, distributes mail, newspapers, and flowers.

* Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).

* Serves a population newborn through geriatric.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

* Knowledge of basic clerical functions.

* Keyboarding skills of 30wpm.

* Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include WORD and Excel.

* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

* Previous exposure to a medical environment.

* Medical terminology.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

* Recent clerical, keyboarding and computer experience.
