The Division of Institutional Advancement advances a culture of philanthropy through the engagement of alumni, faculty, staff, schools/colleges, students, parents and friends (both individually and in the corporate community) in support of the Institution's mission of preparing students to become global leaders and practitioners who transform communities. By using creative strategies to enhance the University's image, the office promotes the overall mission of North Carolina Central University to its external publics in order to solicit and acquire philanthropic support.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Communications and Marketing manager will provide strategic communications, marketing and brand management leadership for the Division of Institutional Advancement. The Manager will research, interview, write, edit, and produce articles, graphics, videos, and other collateral material supporting University Advancement's marketing strategies and plans to grow alumni and donor engagement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Lead the development, management, and maintenance of all marketing materials, educational materials, social media platforms and social marketing outreach materials, and digital and printed content for the Division.
* Experience with multi-platform communications including video, audio, photography, and desktop publishing using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva for marketing materials.
* Experience with social media tools, web design, blogging platforms, data reporting tools, keyword searching and SEO.
* Produces timely, relevant, and compelling content to support the strategic and operational goals to advance the institution by connecting alumni and donors to their passions.
* Shapes, edits, and writes a broad-spectrum of articles, copy and content that is customized for a variety of media platforms and channels.
* Connects storytelling with the Advancement engagement model to encourage alumni and friends to advocate, volunteer, stay connected, serve their communities and support the university.
* Drafts, edits and fact-checks talking points, speeches, brochure copy, and other materials as requested to support University Advancement alumni and donor engagement efforts.
* Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience
* A Bachelor's degree.
* 3 years of copywriting experience in higher education or readily transferable skills and a proven track record of working in a complex environment.
* 3 years of writing/editing highly visible publications.
* Collaborative team-oriented style. Ability to work with a variety of personality types and sensitive to various cultures.
* Knowledgeable of Associated Press and Chicago writing style standards
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and intellectual curiosity.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Familiar with CRM systems such as Blackbaud.
Requires some evening and weekend work occasionally.
