Because Baltimore City is at the heart of our work, travel within the City is required. The ideal candidate will have an awareness of the social dynamics impacting the City and of the historical system of oppression that influences views of the City. The ideal candidate will navigate the City and interact with its citizens with a sensitivity to these factors. BCYF provides a hybrid working environment that allows staff to work remotely when in-person meetings or tasks are not required. BCYF has a COVID-19 vaccination policy that requires employees to be vaccinated as a condition of employment unless they have a medical or religious exemption. POSITION OVERVIEW The Communications Coordinator plays a key role in supporting Baltimore Children & Youth Fund's External Affairs Office. This position reports to the Senior Director of External Affairs and is responsible for creating and generating communications and marketing content for social and public media, external communications, and in-person events. The position works closely with the Communications Manager and Creative Assets Manager to successfully reach BCYF's goals and objectives. To excel in this role, candidates should possess at least one (1) year of marketing and communications experience, an understanding of Baltimore City and its public and private communication sectors, excellent communication and writing skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a proactive, forward-thinking mindset. Requirements ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE *While no candidate will possess every quality, the successful candidate will possess many of the following experience and attributes. (Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record of scaling a start-up nonprofit or philanthropic organization.) KEY RESPONSIBILITIESCreative Content: Draft compelling social media and external content that showcases Baltimore Children & Youth Fund's programs in current, creative, dynamic ways, including, but not limited to emails, social media posts, press releases, video footage, and other materials as needed. Marketing Trends and Implementation Support: Follow up on current marketing trends and collaborate with the Communications Manager to assist with implementing them across BCYF's platforms. Project Management Support: Use BCYF's project management tools to ensure the Communications Team meets its deadlines and projects remain on task. Relationship Building: As a member of the External Affairs Office, nurture relationships with all external stakeholders, including donors, media partners, and community members. Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate extensively with the External Affairs office to align marketing and communications efforts with our broader mission and communication strategies. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCECommunications Expertise: At least one (1) year of marketing and communications experience, ideally in a nonprofit or youth development organization. Baltimore City Insight: An understanding of Baltimore City and its public and private sectors. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders. Self-Driven: A proactive and self-driven approach, with the ability to work independently, think innovatively, and create opportunities. Forward Thinking: Forward-thinking mindset to help shape BCYF's future. Tools and Software: Proficiency in Neon, ClickUp, and Google Workspace and familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud (In-Design and Photoshop), and video editing tools (Note: We do not use Microsoft products, and training will be provided to those who may not have all of these proficiencies).
