Organization Arete Education is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization that trains and empowers youth to lead successful lives, by getting students into good colleges, good jobs, and healthy mindsets by closing the experience gap. Arete serves New York City communities, specifically the South Bronx, Brooklyn, and Harlem through programming and partnerships with public NYCDOE schools, colleges, universities, and industry partners in education, finance, STEM, the arts, and health fields. Arete designs afterschool and summer programming that exposes youth to diverse career pathways; builds academic, wellness, and leadership skills; and expands access to the arts and culture. Job Summary The Arete Communications Associate will be responsible for developing communications content, including graphics and design; running our social media channels; supporting media outreach and tracking coverage; maintaining and publishing on Arete's website; developing strategies to disseminate our work and message to a wide variety of stakeholders; and measuring the impact of these strategies. Additionally, the Communications Associate will work directly with Arete's donor and partnership database to support communications with donors, partners, and alumni. The Communications Associate will have the opportunity to participate in grant writing, online teaching to high school students exploring communications careers, and share communications updates at online family meetings. This is a part-time position (10 hours per week). Duties/Responsibilities
  • Attend weekly virtual communications team meeting on Tuesdays;
  • Publish social media content, both media and text;
  • Work in Mailchimp to organize and run communications campaigns;
  • Organize and curate media (images, movies);
  • Regularly work in Arete's donor and partnership database (Bloomerang) to update records and make calls to constituents;
  • Support grant writing;
  • Teach and/or coach high school students (online);
  • Participate in online parent meetings to share communications updates;
  • Meet regularly with supervisor;
  • Always represent the Arete Education and Partner schools in the best light, consistent with organizational standards of conduct;
  • Coordinate and manages all aspects of assigned projects to ensure timely completion within available budget;
  • Demonstrate exceptional services skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, professionalism, a positive and encouraging demeanor and a can do attitude;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Proficient with all Google Education Apps, Microsoft Office, Zoom Videoconferencing, Social Media apps, video and photo editing apps
Education and Experience
  • 2 years demonstrated leadership and/or education work experience.
  • Prior internship or work experience working with Arete Education preferred
  • Mandated Reporter and Foundations in Health and Safety online trainings required (7-hours)
  • Department of Education background clearance
  • High School diploma, Bachelors preferred
