OverviewFind out more about the daily tasks, overall responsibilities, and required experience for this opportunity by scrolling down now.The Communications Associate is responsible for managing administrative and operational responsibilities related to planning and implementing communication strategies coming out of the Mayor's Office. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating and facilitating the scheduling for the Chief of Communications between internal and external stakeholders; managing the overall organization of materials for the Communications Team, including press briefing materials for the Mayor; staffing the Mayor at various press events; and editing and proofreading communication materials and text.

Responsibilities

  • As a Communications Associate, you will serve as the primary point of contact for the Chief of Communications, managing engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists with responding to media inquiries in a timely manner and proactively coordinates with local media outlets on relevant projects.
  • Writes and edits communications materials such as press releases, media advisories, and statements.
  • Tracks relevant media coverage on a daily basis.
  • Helps prepare the Mayor for media interviews and staff public events.
  • Performs related communications work as required.
  • Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience performing proactive media outreach.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to adapt communication style to different communities and audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with others at every level of the organization.
  • Strong skills in research and fact-checking.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community building, civic engagement, equity, and justice.
  • Ability to maintain calm under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Boston Residency Required
