Salary : $72,938.00 Annually Location : Media, PA Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202300283 Department: Public Relations Opening Date: 11/27/2024 Summary The Director of Communications creates and maintains effective lines of communication between county government and its residents, employees, media and overall general public. This office works diligently to provide information to its residents on the wide variety of county services provided, county infrastructure including bridges, parks and trails, and is committed to ensure transparency and accountability in all government work. The Director engages in proactive messaging of county services and issues to ensure the public are informed of county actions and impact. The Director oversees a small team that provides written and visual content for the County's website and social media, prepares and issues press releases and public comments for County Council and departments in County government. The Communications office serves as a clearinghouse for all County departments to ensure that communication is timely, accurate and in accordance with County government policies. The Director will coordinate with other County department communication personnel to ensure cohesive, coordinated messaging from the County. The Department handles emergency communications, coordinated through the Emergency Services Center, when necessary as part of the County response to a natural disaster or other emergencies. Essential Duties • Communicate public messages from Council and all County departments to residents through press coverage, the county's website, social media, newsletters, emails, written letters and external communication with various partners. • Coordinate and work with communications consultants, as needed, to executive strategic communications plan. • Write and disseminate media alerts and press releases to generate media coverage for County related events, press conferences and public messages. • Provide supervision, direction, and performance evaluation to communications staff • Design graphics and flyers for use on the County's website and social media pages. Maintain the County's website, providing written and visual updates on County related events and public messages. • Develop social media content and maintain social media pages for Council and various County departments. • Coordinate and execute a crisis management response with the press and public during emergencies in the County. • Serve as a clearinghouse for all County departments to ensure that communication is timely, accurate and in accordance with County government policies. • Act as the government liaison between Delaware County and state and township government leaders. • Act as the liaison between Delaware County and the Delaware Chamber of Commerce, the Delaware County Commerce Center, the Delaware County Tourism Bureau and the business community to develop and coordinate business related events, launches, messages and ribbon cuttings. • Act as the liaison between Delaware County and schools, organizations and the community to develop and coordinate recognition and participation in community related events. • Identify and prepare commendatory resolutions, certificates, letters and other ceremonial presentations by County Council. • Video and photograph County related press conferences, events and public meetings. • Prepare written remarks for Council's participation in public events. • Work with County departments to develop community programs and public outreach messages. • Write and visually design the annual State of the County address and slideshow presented to county leaders and the business community. • Communicate messages from Council and all County departments to all County employees via email and flyers posted at County buildings. • Identifies and prepares commendatory resolutions for public service, certificates, letters and other ceremonial presentations of County Council. • Responsible for communication aspects of County Council meetings including the recording and posting of videos, managing attendees and other communication functions Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as directed. Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree, experience in public relations, knowledge of social media, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Additional Information Physical Requirements: A valid driver's license, the ability to carry and set up equipment such as a podium, speakers, video camera and tripod.
