2025 Communications Spring Internship Washington, D.C. Internship (January - May 2025) OVERVIEW The internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sports media within the fast-paced world of professional sports. As an intern, you'll work closely with the communications team to help build and promote the team's brand through building out game notes with statistics, creating storylines to pitch to the media, assisting with press conferences, and other media operations. RESPONSIBILITIES ? Assist on matchday and the coordination of events such as press conferences, media day, etc. ? Support the development of departmental publications (e.g., press releases, media advisories, game notes, media guide, etc.). ? Monitor and report on team coverage in new and traditional local and national media. ? Perform other duties as assigned by the Communications department WHAT YOU'LL LEARN ? Learn how to develop and execute communication strategies through creating press releases, post-match facts, and putting together game notes by researching all aspects of the club. ? Understanding and applying the set up for home matches/events, how home matches/events and first team training are covered by the media and how to disseminate information. ? Media logistics for open practices, pre -match and post-match press conferences, as well as any first-team interviews ? Gain experience in working closely with the content team, marketing team and the first team to ensure a unified communication approach, aligning messages with the broader goals of the organization EXPERIENCE ? Must be currently enrolled in college and seek credit for the internship. ? Experience in sports preferred, but not required ? Strong communication and editorial skills ? Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel is required, while the knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is not required, but preferred. D.C. United are one of 29 teams in Major League Soccer (MLS). United have called the District home for the last 28 seasons and play their home games at Audi Field in the Buzzard Point neighborhood of Southwest, Washington, D.C, which opened in 2018. The Black-and-Red have won the MLS Cup four times (1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004), the Supporters' Shield four times (1997, 1999, 2006 and 2007) and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup three times (1996, 2008 and 2013). This is an unpaid, for credit internship (proof that you will receive credit is required). You must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Because of the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, your assigned hours may vary to reflect our needs (includes nights and weekends). D.C.
