Position Summary The Communications Manager is responsible for creating and executing an internal communications strategy focused on streamlining communication and engaging both corporate and field audiences. Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing, this position will partner with internal teams to implement new communications processes across the organization, centrally managing the flow of information across a variety of channels. Additionally, this position will serve as a content manager for the company intranet, support internal meetings and events, and partner with the Marketing team to support external PR initiatives. This position is best suited for a skilled communicator with significant experience in developing and implementing new processes across a variety of teams, working comfortably with individuals at all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate will also possess strong interpersonal and project management skills, as well as a passion for creating engaging content and experiences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work alongside leadership to develop new internal communications function and strategy, leading the implementation of new processes to manage the flow of information within the organization
- Create and manage communication calendars for both the field and corporate audiences, sending communications on behalf of project owners, executives, and various corporate departments
- Create branded email templates for internal communications
- Write compelling email copy, ensuring all messaging utilizes the voice and tone appropriate for the specific audience
- Work cross-functionally across corporate teams, executing communication initiatives from concept to delivery
- Partner with Project Management function in development and execution of communication schedule for organization-wide projects
- Partner with Marketing leadership and external consultants in support of corporate PR efforts
- Support communication needs of internal and external Marketing, Human Resources, and Operations projects as needed
- Support ongoing maintenance and content management of the company intranet
- Manage content gathering and creation for internal newsletters
- Support company meetings such as town halls and leadership meetings, assisting with presentations as needed
- Support corporate emergency response and crisis communication efforts, partnering with leadership and external consultants/agencies
- Stay up-to-date on the latest communications technology and relevant digital platforms to provide the best methods for effective internal communication
- Establish key performance indicators and benchmarks to measure the success of internal communications initiatives
- Support monthly and quarterly reporting efforts
- Continuously seek opportunities to strengthen communication and improve efficiency across the organization
- Act as a brand steward for all entities across the Blue River PetCare network
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, or relevant field. Or associate's degree with 10+ years of professional experience in a related field.
Basic Qualifications

- Six+ years of experience in professional communications-specific role (internships will not count towards this requirement)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, delegate, and meet deadlines
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong copywriting and content creation skills
- Working knowledge of Mailchimp, Stripo, and Monday.com (or equivalent platforms) preferred
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organization
- Veterinary or healthcare industry experience preferred, but not required. If no experience, must have the ability to quickly develop a strong working knowledge of the industry.
- Portfolio of previous work preferred
- Experience working with an organization with multiple brands/brand voices preferred
Physical Requirements
- Remain in a seated position at least 75% of the time
- Ability to navigate around the office to access file cabinets, supplies, office machinery, etc
- Ability to communicate with others via in-person verbal communication, as well as frequent emails and phone calls
- Must be able to exchange clear, accurate information in these situations.
- Ability to utilize a computer, keyboard and mouse when working
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs
- Must be able to travel domestically via plane and motor vehicle as needed
Technical Skills:
- Basic graphic design skills with experience working in Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva
- Experience building and managing multiple communications calendars
- Working knowledge of project management tools, such as Monday and Basecamp
- Working knowledge of email marketing platforms, such as Mailchimp and iContact
- Working knowledge of email template builders, such as Stripo
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Exceptional writing skills, including composition, grammar, and spelling
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Exceptional time management and organization skills
