Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
At least 5 years of experience in communications, public relations or journalism
Demonstrated ability in copywriting, crisis communications, media relations and public relations
Exceptional writing skills, with proficiency in Associated Press (AP) style
Experience with digital communications, including social media management and content management systems
Strong leadership and project management abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities independently
Preferred Education/Training/Experience
Advanced degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or the Arts
Experience in higher education or the public sector communications
Familiarity with community college systems and their communication challenges
Bilingual copywriting using AP Style for Spanish-speaking audiences

Job Duties
Internal & External Communications: Develop and manage comprehensive communication strategies, ensuring effective, timely and transparent communication with all college stakeholders.
Media Relations: Act as the primary contact for media inquiries, maintain strong relationships with media outlets and ensure positive coverage for the College.
Crisis & Emergency Communications: Assist executive director in leading crisis communication efforts, ensuring rapid response capabilities and development of a crisis communications team and robust crisis management plans.
Social Media Support: Provide necessary support to the College's social media efforts, aligning content with institutional priorities and enhancing digital engagement.
Public Relations: Uphold and promote the College's public image through strategic public relations initiatives that underscore the College's mission, vision and values.
Marketing Communications Support: Work closely with the marketing team to ensure cohesive messaging across campaigns and initiatives. This will include editorial planning, copywriting and proofreading.
Effectiveness, Responsiveness and Transparency: Monitor and optimize communication strategies to meet organizational objectives and enhance stakeholder engagement.
Community Engagement: Develop and implement strategies that engage local stakeholders, promote transparency and showcase the College's regional impact.
Other Duties: Being a conservatively sized department, there are events, initiatives throughout the year in which all team members participate in planning and facilitating.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Attendance Required.
