POSITION SUMMARY

As a Communications Specialist focused on digital content production, delivery, measurement and optimization, this role supports the enterprise by crafting compelling communications and executing internal and external digital programs that drive engagement and build the companys reputation.

This hands-on position is a key part of a collaborative channel and editorial team that partners across the business to source, develop and publish impactful content on multiple channels. Communication activities include consulting, researching, interviewing, writing, designing, editing and assessing. The successful candidate will use their creativity, technical proficiency and data analysis skills to help continually advance our digital communications capabilities.

This role is part of the Digital, Social and Communications Operations (DSCO) team and belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidates experience and qualifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Craft and manage communications content (articles, videos, presentations, social media posts, emails, newsletters, etc.), including sourcing, writing, editing, designing, facilitating content approval, and publishing

  • Understand, interpret and apply communication research techniques, data, learnings and stakeholder insights to improve and enhance future communications

  • Work cross-functionally with other Communications & Community Relations team members to ensure consistency and cohesion; collaborate and partner with other organizations across the company

  • Conduct media and social media monitoring and reporting; support media relations efforts, including participating in crisis preparedness and response activities

  • Work to convey MPCs story and effectively distribute information to the companys range of internal and external stakeholders in service of key business objectives

  • Provide strategic counsel on digital communications, storytelling, and engagement best practices; Maintain the accuracy and quality of key company communication materials and provide active oversight and support for digital platforms

  • Utilize internal and external data and feedback for continuous improvement and to identify, explore and test new communications strategies and tactics

  • Create and deliver audience- and channel-appropriate materials, including scripting, messaging and content, for complex, sensitive and business critical issues, including sustainability and crisis management, as required.

  • Develop and implement multi-channel communication plans with positioning, messaging, tactics, channels and sequencing of activities; define and track communication metrics to determine effectiveness of programming, as needed.

  • Implement communications strategies that support and reinforce an inclusive company culture

  • Provide guidance and support to team members, and contribute to the overall development of the teams collective skills and expertise

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelors degree required, degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism highly preferred.

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience producing compelling communications for a variety of channels and audiences at a large or midsized company or public relations firm required.

  • Demonstrated capability of leading communications initiatives from beginning to end

  • Energy or manufacturing industry experience preferred

SKILLS

  • Strong understanding of internal and external communications strategies; particularly as it relates to creating and delivering content that has a measurable impact

  • Demonstrated capacity to be highly creative, analytical and data-driven at the same time

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all types of employees, from front-line workers to executives

  • Strong written, editorial planning, and multimedia skills; ability to efficiently produce compelling communications under pressure, as well as present ideas, strategies and results succinctly and persuasively

  • Demonstrated understanding of the digital communications landscape as it relates to a large company, including social media program management best practices, online listening tools and reporting, website management, SEO/SEM, and internal digital communications platforms

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment with a high-degree of autonomy, accountability and accuracy

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and with little oversight

  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to build strong relationships and work effectively in a matrix organization

  • Knowledge of communication and change management techniques, methods, processes, and best practices, including knowledge of Associated Press style

  • High curiosity; eager to learn and understand a wide range of energy industry subject matter
