Job Title: Communications Specialist Department: Communications Reports to: Director of Communications Type: 12 month Staff Status: Exempt Posted: November 6, 2024St. Andrew's School is an independent, all-boarding, Episcopal secondary school founded in 1929 to prepare students for lives of citizenship, service, and purpose.St. Andrew's School seeks a communications specialist to serve as the content creator for the school's social media channels; writer of email newsletters, web stories, and magazine features; and the school's webmaster. As a member of the school's Communications Office, the communications specialist works to ensure timely communications with the school's constituents (alumni, parents, students, faculty, and staff) through various channels. This position is primarily a content-creation position.Responsibilities:School CommunicationsBuilds and writes school email newsletters, including the Friday News (current families newsletter) and Beyond the Pond (alumni newsletter).Collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and administration to gather stories and insights; researches and generates compelling story ideas; interviews subjects as needed; writes and edits all copy; and gathers relevant images, video, or other digital assets.Writes St. Andrew's School website news articles, blog posts, announcements, and other temporal website copy.Writes for each issue of the St. Andrew's Magazine, in collaboration with the magazine editor.Writes and creates athletics content for digital and print communications.Serves as webmaster for the school website. Makes ongoing and weekly content updates, and manages web forms, website employee directory, and Posts  module of school website content management system.Participates in the life of the school, attending occasional school events for reporting, photo, and/or live streaming coverage.Note: School events sometimes occur before 8 a.m. or after 4 p.m. on weeknights and/or on weekends.Assists the Communications Team in managing up to four student interns each athletic season.Contributes to Communications Team all-hands  work as needed.Social Media ManagementManages and creates content for all primary school social media accounts, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn.In collaboration with other members of the Communications Team, manages a school-wide editorial calendar and strategizes the generation and distribution of content across platforms.Stays up-to-date with trends in content marketing, social media, and digital communication.Photography & VideographyTakes photos and/or video of school activities and events.Creates engaging videos for social media and in support of fundraising or admissions needs.Manages the Communication Team's photo and video asset libraries.Job Requirements:Bachelor's degree in English/Journalism, Communications, or a related field required.Minimum two years of experience as a reporter, writer, editor, or marketing professional.Minimum two years of experience managing social media accounts and creating social media content.Keen attention to detail is required. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills are a must.The successful candidate will:Be an outstanding writer and editor, capable of producing error-free copy each day.Possess excellent time management and organization skills.Be a lifelong learner, who enjoys working in a school environment.Fluency in Google Suite preferred.Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred.Website management experience preferred.This position requires the ability to collaborate with a wide range of campus constituents.Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment.St. Andrew's School is an equal opportunity employer.
