KAVI is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) youth-serving organization with a mission to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence in young people's lives through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and social justice. KAVI promotes community wellness and healing by operating high-impact youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Brooklyn. Our programs take place in hospital-based, school, and community settings. We are a fast-paced, rapidly growing nonprofit organization. Job Summary: KAVI is recruiting one individual to work within the Wyckoff Section of Brooklyn. This role will attend community events (meetings, resident affairs), engage with residents to provide information on available services and resources within the community and Brooklyn, and support events hosted by KAVI and our partners. KAVI is seeking a Community Associate to represent the organization in two functional areas:
1. External Affairs and Relations, including attending and participating in community and private events.
2. Community and Stakeholder engagement includes recruiting people and participants into our programs and projects.
External Affairs and Relations: The Community Associate will work closely with the MAP Program Coordinator to identify and attend external-facing events important to the organization, align directly with KAVI's mission, and support the overall spirit of KAVI's work with youth and communities.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement: This position will also engage individuals, communities, and organizations in which KAVI operates and seeks to operate. It will represent the organization at external events and meetings, including conferences, convenings, working groups, and consortium activities. This position will be integral in planning, implementing, and coordinating KAVI's community relationships and events. The Community Engagement Associate will also provide outreach to existing and potential partner schools and organizations.
Essential Job Functions: Support recruitment and communications processes, including representing KAVI at local and citywide events and meetings. Contribute to the program including assistance with engaging residents and facilitating activities. Engage and foster relationships with an array of stakeholders, including outreach and cultivation of relationships with local CBOs and local elected officials.
Support Program and Organization Development: Plan and execute community initiatives and programs. Participate in social events and workshops.
Experience and Background: Experience & commitment to working with and for Black and Brown neighborhoods and people. Demonstrated ability to work with community members and consult with a diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and oral communication skills with diverse communities. Demonstrated ability to prioritize. Ability to carry out administrative tasks on time and in a professional manner. Computer skills (proficiency in Word, Access & Excel preferred) or a willingness to learn. Violence prevention policy & media experience preferred. Formal training in conflict resolution and/or mediation is a plus.

Compensation: The starting wage for the part-time Education & Employment Navigator position is budgeted for $20 per hour
