Location: Wise,VA, USA
The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applicants for a part-time Community Builder position. As part of a larger pilot project, the Community Builder position will work primarily with two localities (Carroll and Dickenson County) in Southwest Virginia (West of Roanoke) to facilitate the Resilience Adaptation Feasibility Tool (RAFT) to facilitate projects in those localities to promote and develop their resilience through various types, including but not limited to environmental, economic and others. As an employee of UVA Wise, the Community Builder will also work with representatives of UVA Charlottesville, and the University's Institute for Engagement and Negotiation who will serve in an advisory role for the overall project work. The overall project is anticipated to be completed in a two-year period.
This position will be primarily a telework position, but with travel required to project localities, in Southwest Virginia, to the UVA Wise campus and other offsite locations, and potentially to UVA Charlottesville during the project period.
Job duties:
* Consistent engagement and facilitation within the localities to complete the project Community Builders to provide leadership, direction and support in the project. Plan, schedule, and facilitate all meetings and conversations will all stakeholders, both locally and otherwise as appropriate.
* Oversight of all administrative duties required for the project, as a liaison between the localities and UVA Wise/UVA Charlottesville, including but not limited regarding project milestone tasks, reports, etc., including project budget and funding reports. Participate in all project meetings ongoing to provide updates to college and university staff and leadership.
* Facilitate local participation in the RAFT scoring process, identification of next steps and action items, and final reports to the community.
* Assist in garnering community support, participation and long-term impact of the project overall through outreach, communications, and one-on-one conversations as needed to make the project successful.
* Work with project team based in Wise and Charlottesville to coordinate responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Candidate should be familiar with the region, have experience in local government, community engagement and organizing, and a passionate interest in locality resilience and public service. Specific skills including project management, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement are critical for a successful candidate.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in applicable field desire, but not required dependent upon experience.
Compensation:
Part-time position with an hourly rate of $20/$22 per hour anticipated.
