These include Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, paid holidays, Flexible Spending Account Plans, 457 Plans, Life Insurance , and others.DescriptionIncumbent serves as Field Coordinator for Vigo County Community Corrections, responsible for monitoring program participants assigned to home detention and work release programs.Examples of Duties
  • Enforces local, state, and federal laws by implementing effective policy to protect the lives and property of the people.
  • Provides supervision of Home Detention and Work Release programs, including maintaining all work/activity scheduling for clients within eachcomponent.
  • Meets with clients as required, gathering and disseminating pertinent information and instruction.
  • Monitors home detention and work release program participants, maintaining record of contacts, ensuring compliance with program rules and regulations, and reporting unusual activity and/or violations to the Court.
  • Installs, maintains and updates electronic monitoring equipment, maintains equipment inventory, and trains monitoring staff to properly utilize electronic monitoring hardware and software.
  • Conducts random home and employment visits and maintains telephone contact with clients to assess compliance with program conditions. Administers random alcohol and drug testing and maintains records of violations.
  • Provides surveillance on active clients and assists in participant, facility, and home or property searches as warranted.
  • Works with other counties and various agencies to manage caseload and transferred offenders. Serves as liaison to participants and employers, including explaining program policies, answering questions, mediating conflicts, and resolving problems.
  • Maintains daily reports, records, and logs, and ensures proper caseload documentation. Compiles data and prepares statistical reports as required and provides law enforcement agencies with client information on a regular basis.
  • Monitors payment of program participant fees and participates in the collection process.
  • Serves as disciplinary review officer, including reviewing conduct reports, conducting screening hearings, and implementing sanctions in accordance with administrative procedures.
  • Organizes and assigns work crew community service.
  • Answers and logs telephone calls, determining nature of call, providing information and assistance, taking messages, and/or directing caller to appropriate individual or department.
  • Provides testimony in legal proceedings or court as necessary.
  • Maintains current knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws concerning Community Corrections operations and ensures program is compliant with established guidelines.
  • Ensures maintenance and care of all Department vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists in assuming duties of other component personnel as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of client information/cases.
  • Attends staff meetings and completes professional development workshops, training, and education as required.
  • Serves on-call and responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
  • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, social work, behavioral sciences, or related discipline.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to meet all Department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain required certifications and training, including, but not limited to, First Responder/CPR and Indiana Risk Assessment System certifications. Successful completion of motivational interviewing techniques, strategic directives, defensive tactics, and all other recommended training as required by the Department.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal requirements and standard policies, practices, and general operations of the Department, with ability to apply appropriate procedures to ongoing operations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to properly use Department equipment, including computer, calculator, fax machine, breathalyzer, urine screen equipment, Alcosensor, electronic monitoring equipment, vehicle, telephone/cell phone, handcuffs, and tear gas/mace.
  • Considerable knowledge of community geography and ability to effectively monitor and/or locate offenders, verify and document compliance with program requirements, and take appropriate action in response to violations.
  • Working knowledge of universal health precautions and blood borne pathogens control, and ability to apply such knowledge to protect oneself against infection.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to effectively apply evidence collection and preservation techniques.
  • Working knowledge of standard office procedures and Department computer programs, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations.
  • Working knowledge of Standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to prepare detailed written reports.
  • Knowledge of standard filing systems and ability to create and maintain Department files.
  • Working knowledge of current training programs and ability to develop and direct training of department personnel.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of self and other individuals in the workplace.
  • Ability to deal swiftly, rationally, and decisively with potentially violent individuals in precarious situations, take authoritative action, and apply appropriate discretion and common sense.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly, hear and be heard and understood when communicating in person, by radio or by telephone.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, law enforcement agencies, Probation, Prosecutor's Office, Courts, Department of Child Services (DCS), treatment centers, social service agencies, offenders, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
  • Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of Department information and records according to state requirements.
  • Ability to comply with all employer and Department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
  • Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with hostile/violent individuals.
  • Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out oral and written instructions and present findings in oral or written form.
  • Ability to compile, compare, analyze and evaluate data, and make determinations based on data analysis.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percentages.
  • Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment, often under time pressure, and on several tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to plan/layout assigned work projects, apply knowledge of people/locations, and utilize good judgment in extreme and uncommon situations.
  • Ability to purchase and oversee maintenance, repair and/or replacement of department vehicles, equipment and/or uniforms.
  • Ability to testify in legal proceedings/court.
  • Ability to regularly work extended or irregular hours, evenings and/or weekends, and occasionally travel out of town for training, sometimes overnight.
  • Ability to serve on-call and respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
Supplemental InformationIncumbent performs duties according to a formal schedule and standard Department policies and guidelines. Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures, with incumbent referring to supervisor for unusual or unprecedented matters.Incumbent receives indirect or occasional supervision and has a moderate degree of flexibility in the job. On rare occasions, decisions are made in the absence of specific policies and procedures, and/or guidance from supervisor. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through procedural safeguards and supervisory review. Undetected errors could result in endangerment to self or others and/or loss of public trust.Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, law enforcement agencies, Probation, Prosecutor's Office, Courts, Department of Child Services (DCS), treatment centers, social service agencies, offenders, for purposes of maintaining cooperative work relationships, explaining/interpreting policies, and resolving problems.Incumbent reports directly to Senior Case Manager.Incumbent performs majority of duties in a standard office environment, in a vehicle, and in the field. Regular duties involve sitting for long periods, sitting/walking at will, standing/walking for long periods, walking up/down flights of stairs, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling, close/far vision, color/depth perception, keyboarding, handling/grasping/fingering objects, speaking clearly, hearing sounds/communication, driving, and exposure to varying weather conditions. Incumbent maintains considerable contact with offenders and may be exposed to irate/hostile individuals and/or physical violence. Protective gear and/or equipment must be worn according to Department policy. Universal health/safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid contamination, infection, and/or injury to self and others.Incumbent regularly works extended or irregular hours, evenings and/or weekends, and occasionally travels out of town for training, sometimes overnight.
