Program and Position SummaryThe Trauma-Informed Behavioral Health Services (TIBH) program aims to address youth (ages 13-24) who have been exposed to violence in the Calumet City Cluster area with evidence-based treatment and services including therapy, service navigation, and community-based training on the signs and symptoms of trauma and mental health concerns. The Trainer will be or become certified as a Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor and provide outreach and training on the curriculum to youth-serving providers and caregivers in the Calumet City Cluster areas. This role intends to increase awareness of the signs and symptoms of youth mental health and equip them with the skills to know how to respond. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedule, coordinate, and arrange logistics for outreach, training, and community events Implement free Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training in the Calumet City and surrounding communities and various groups such as public employees and SGA employees.
- Conduct outreach to market and coordinate training within the Calumet City Cluster communities targeting a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to schools, libraries, doctor's offices, barber/beauty shops, park districts, social service organizations, etc.
- Build a network of mental health and suicide prevention resources to be available to the community.
- Reach at least 300 residents who will be trained to identify and support residents with mental health needs.
- Provide community awareness to decrease stigma against people with mental health illnesses and substance use problems while increasing knowledge of suicide risk factors and warning signs
- Provide tools for community members to help with early identification, intervention, and referral to appropriate professional help.
- Collect data on activities conducted and submit data entry and maintenance of inperson and virtual training or information sessions on recognizing and responding to signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
- Work cooperatively with the Behavioral Health Specialist and Service Navigator to ensure participants have the education and resources needed.
- Assist in the development of promotional and marketing materials
- Responsible for all administrative duties and requirements to the program, including but not limited to, reporting requirements, documentation of activities, submission of all required paperwork, preparing purchase orders, etc.
- Participate in community network meetings and funder-required meetings and training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
RequirementsEducation:
- Associate's degree in social work, psychology, communications, public health, or other related field preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience with training and community engagement, Planning, facilitating, and implementing training for adult learners.
- Recruitment, outreach and engagement activities for programming
- Experience with providing trauma-informed interventions
Other:
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals, and community groups.
- The schedule may be flexible and may include some evenings and weekends.
- Valid driver's license, access to a car, and willingness to drive.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
- Must demonstrate the ability to establish helping relationships with families of varying educational, experiential, and socio-economic backgrounds and handle emergencies and crises.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
- Focus on trauma-informed programming including crisis response and support.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to frequently move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Must be able to transport oneself to and from community events and sites.
- Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
- At times may be required to lift to 25 lbs. for various classroom and event needs.
- Ability to move in outdoor weather conditions.
