  • The Community Engagement & Safety Specialist role is part of the Behavioral Health team that supports ETS' mission of collaboration, respect, and integrity. In support of these values, this position works with ETS and community members to ensure our participants receive a high level of MOUD services that are both innovative and effective.
  • This role makes a critical difference at ETS by assuring patients are provided a safe and therapeutic environment where they can access needed resources and to help create a welcoming environment where patients feel a sense of respect and belonging and, in turn, access resources needed to improve their quality of life.
  • The position is full time onsite; the location is one of ETS' Clinic facilities and/or one of ETS' Mobile Units; the hours are 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM, with rotating Saturdays.
  • The pay range for this position is $26.00 per hour - $27.50 per hour. (The annual equivalent is $54,080 per year - $57,200 per year.) ETS strives to achieve pay equity and transparency as part of our goal to create an equitable workplace.
What you contribute to this role - Responsibilities:
  • Help ETS succeed in carrying out our mission through working together with other staff to transform systems of harm and inequity to create different approaches to improving community health and safety through addressing substance use and homelessness.
  • Assist with the organization-wide initiative to reimagine our interconnectedness within our community to overcome the aspects of our society and organizational culture shaped by white supremacy and settler colonialism.
  • Help create a safe and therapeutic environment by welcoming patients to the ETS space.
  • Carry out the safe operation and driving of a large RV-style vehicle in areas of high traffic.
  • Set up and break down a mobile treatment facility in an urban environment.
  • Develop rapport and trusting relationships with patients through respectful, person-centered engagement practices.
  • Orient new patients to clinic space(s) and remote TIM locations and facilitate patient flow in and out of the space while maintaining a hospitable and friendly demeanor.
  • Meet with patients within their first two days to review the ETS Clinic Services Safety Agreement and complete a Crisis Intervention Plan.
  • Monitor patients' activities inside the clinic and within the extent of ETS property or within the immediate vicinity of the remote treatment locations, with the intent to address any potential safety risks or violations of program rules and regulations.
  • Produce and distribute a daily email, prior to the beginning of dosing, that provides the clinic with needed information about the day's safety team rolls.
  • Submit incident reports or other relevant documentation when appropriate and monitor and report hazardous materials and conditions.
  • Work in collaboration with Counselors and Case Managers to support individual service plans for patients with challenging behaviors.
  • Demonstrate highest level of integrity and maintain exceptional levels of confidentiality related to 42 CFR part II and HIPAA: uphold strict patient confidentiality and safeguard sensitive security-related information, including logs and reports.
  • Responsible for clinic opening and closing procedures.
  • Conduct Bathroom Checks.
  • Conduct twice-daily safety inspection of mobile treatment unit both in the check-out and check-in of the vehicle to its secured location through the completion of a verified checklist; also monitor security cameras and control systems.
  • Routinely maintain critical functions to the operation of the mobile treatment vehicle such as; fill-and-dump of gray water tank, tire pressure checks, fluid level checks, filling of the gas tank.
  • Assist with receiving and stocking supply shipments for the clinic and mobile treatment unit.
  • Assist police, fire, EMS, and all other emergency service providers in the performance of their duties while responding to or on ETS property.
  • Respond to all facility and mobile unit alarm activations including but not limited to security, duress, fire, and intrusion alarms.
  • Help implement systems to support patients with behavioral issues.
  • Help support large patient events and activities.
  • Attend ETS team meetings and other required meetings.
  • Always follow all ETS policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements What you bring to this role - Qualifications: •Education and/or Relevant and Lived Experience (if applicable): o High school diploma or equivalent required o Undergraduate degree highly desirable o Academic training in the social service or SUDP/SUDPT field highly desirable o Two years' previous experience in a safety-related role, especially with individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Knowledge and Skills: o An understanding of racial justice and social equity and a commitment to helping create an equitable environment for all ETS clients and patients as well as fellow staff. o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, and staff from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. o Customer service experience and/or training. o Experience driving a truck, van, or RV in different environments, including urban settings with heavy street traffic, highly desirable. o Possession of a valid Washington State Motor Vehicle License o Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team in a health-care/behavioral healthcare setting. o Strong interpersonal skills and verbal/ written communication skills. o Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and complete tasks timely and efficiently. o Dependable, able to work under pressure, receptive to change, willingness to learn, cooperative approach to problem solving. o Flexible team player, with excellent attention to detail. o Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling highly sensitive information. o Ability to set boundaries, resolve conflict and de-escalate issues. o Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change. Additional Essential Information: Physical Conditions and Requirements: •The employee may be exposed to illicit drug residues and fumes or other bio-hazardous materials when carrying out job functions. There is also potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens. ETS will provide employees with appropriate training to limit the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Policies and procedures are in place addressing each item specifically. •The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, and kneel; occasionally to climb balance, or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl. In addition, the position frequently requires the employee to work outside in inclement weather. •The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
