The student Garden Coordinator is required to work 8 hours/week during the academic years and 40 hours during the summer (May through August).
Position Description
Position Summary
The Office of Sustainability at Messiah University cultivates an environment for across campus coordination of sustainability thought and action through the development of student leadership. The Community Garden Coordinator will facilitate and manage the people and projects of the community garden for the duration of the calendar year. This position will be required to work as part of the summer garden team (please see summer garden worker job description for more details).
Major Preferred Experience Required
Familiarity and volunteer experience with the Office of Sustainability and the Grantham Community Garden is a plus

Special Working Conditions
Must be available for most of Spring 2024, all Summer 2025, and most of Fall 2025. Flexible working hours.
Background Check Required No Primary Duties
1. Plan and prepare for growing season including seed orders, planting schedule, and seed germination
2. Recruit, manage and track volunteers
3. Complete necessary farm tasks, such as planting, weeding, watering, pest management and maintenance
4. Organize and run market farm stands (including but not limited to mass emails, posters, word of mouth, etc.)
5. Track income and expenses
6. Collect data related to produce planted and create reports documenting the successes and failures of garden
7. Coordinate care for campus chickens
8. When necessary provide care to campus apiary
9. Send emails to CSA and campus community for garden events/updates
10. Update content for sustainability website and make Instagram/Facebook posts
11. Document work of garden through photos, social media, etc.
12. Attend garden events and functions such as work days and team
meetings
13. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
