POSITION SUMMARY:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengtheningcommunity through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As the Health Coach you willsupport the Y in the Evidence Based Health Intervention (EBHI) programs Livestrong, Parkinson's Programs,Diabetes Prevention, Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring, and Exercise is Medicine Exercise if Medicine. Theinstructor will ensure these programs operate successfully, within HIPAA compliance measures, and inaccordance with policies, procedures, and established best practices.More about our programs:
  • Livestrong: a 12-week exercise program for those that have had a cancer diagnosis today or 30 years ago. This program addresses survivorship and improving quality of life.
  • Rock Steady Boxing: enables people with Parkinson's Disease to fight their disease by providing non-contact boxing style fitness classes that improve quality of life, sense of efficacy and self-worth. Recent studies also suggest this intense program may be neuro-protective working to delay the progression of symptoms.
  • Pedaling for Parkinson's: This program has been shown to help reduce Parkinson's motor systems by having participants ride an indoor, stationary bike for 1 hour, 2-3 times a week.
  • Diabetes Prevention: a 1-year healthy lifestyle change program for people at risk for type 2 diabetes. This program reviews healthy eating, physical activity, reducing stress, and improving overall health through small steps.
  • Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring: A 4-month program designed to help adults with hypertension lower and manage their blood pressure.
  • Exercise is Medicine: a 12-week exercise program with rolling admission that provides adaptable exercise sessions with comprehensive education, instills confidence, and facilitates independence that will help patients develop positive lifestyle behaviors which can treat, prevent, and potentially reverse chronic diseases.

Deliver and lead EBHI programs to association, YUSA, and Prisma Health standards and work withbranch staff to develop the overall operation of these programs.2. Support and conduct intake, coordination, delivery, evaluation, and timely tracking for specifiedprograms.3. Support the growth and successful operation of EBHI programming for the association.4. Facilitate and strengthen community engagement in the service areas of our branch to expand andenhance the delivery of current and new EBHI programs offered at the Foothills Area YMCA.5. Track all data and provide necessary reports in a timely manner utilizing appropriate software.6. Serve as spokesperson and ambassador of EBHI programming. Maintain positive public relations withcommunity and participants and always represent the best interests of the YMCA.7. Work closely with the Community Health Coordinator and Fitness Director, to ensure programs andimpact are promoted to our membership, participants, stakeholders, partners, and communities.8. Maintain open communication and work proactively to build strong relationships with all staff.9. Assist in planning special events that will create a positive image of the Foothills Area YMCA in ourcommunity.10. Follows and performs YMCA group exercise, fitness coach, and personal trainer policies and essentialfunctions.11. Performs other duties as assigned.LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field preferred
  • Must complete program specific certification within 30 days of hire
  • Must hold current NCCA personal training certification or higher, preferably ACSM
  • Must hold current CPR/AED, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention certification within 60 days of hire
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Computer skills involved Microsoft Office and email
  • Ability to perform under stress and reach deadlines
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Personal passion for health and wellness
  • Knowledge and interest in public health/community integrated health and evidence-based initiatives
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
