These services may be performed in clinics, homes, schools, and other community settings. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to; conduct clinical nursing services, provide health education, collaborate with community partners, investigate disease outbreaks and respond to public health threats. Must demonstrate strong technical skills, experience providing health education and ability to exercise independent nursing judgment. Nurses must be able to practice in compliance with Title X, Vaccine for Children Program, Michigan Public Health Code, CDC and other relevant minimum program requirements.This position on the Sexual Health Team will provide direct public health services to consumers in the family planning and sexually transmitted disease clinic services. The nurse will work in a team approach to provide reproductive health services to clients. Services are provided in an appointment-based clinic and assure compliance with Title X and Federal mandates and Center for Disease Control testing and treatment guidelines.This is a benefited position, part-time (32 hours per week). This position is based out of the Public Health Building in Holland, Michigan. Travel to other county locations as needed. Typical working hours are Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m. with the exception of Tuesdays which are 9:00a.m.-6:00p.m. Essential Job Functions The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Provides public health nursing and case management services to individuals and families in clinics, homes, and community settings, by assessing health care requirements, educating and providing or coordinating follow-up health and/or social services.2. Interviews and educates patients, performs screening tests, administers vaccines and medications, documents patient information, makes referrals and performs related patient care duties.3. Provides disease surveillance and works with an interdisciplinary team during outbreak investigation and response.4. Sets up clinic sites for scheduled clinic operations, ensuring that all equipment is available and operational, medications and vaccines are properly stocked, stored and have inventory control management.5. Collects, preserves, labels, and packages specimens for laboratory analysis.6. Provides educational presentations to health care providers and the public.7. Ensures that all client services are provided in compliance with established standards of professional practice and ethics, and Health Department policies, procedures and quality standards.8. Helps support an equitable, safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace.9. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Education, Training and Experience Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (B.S.N.) from an accredited college or university or R.N. degree from an accredited nursing program with one year of public health nursing experience.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:Possession of valid State of Michigan certification as a Registered Nurse required. Individuals in this classification provide services to clients in a variety of locations throughout the County and are responsible for providing their own transportation. Additional Requirements and Information REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:1. Thorough working knowledge of the principles and practices of public health nursing. Working knowledge of professional and ethical practice standards.2. Proficient at administering injections and medications.3. Working knowledge of Title X, Vaccines For Children, CDC, MDHHS and other federal, state and local statutes and regulations governing eligibility for and delivery of services to client populations.4. Thorough working knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements governing the confidentiality of patient health information, including the provisions of HIPAA.5. Ability to interact positively with patients, co-workers, health care providers and human service practitioners and community representatives from widely diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and with varying levels of interpersonal and communications skills.6. Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize the workload.7. Computer proficiency and working knowledge of electronic medical records documentation standards.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations, including, but not limited to, visual and/or audiological appliances, and devices to increase mobility.1. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to properly process and package specimens, provide multiple injections and draw blood.2. Must be able to transport, set up and tear down equipment weighing up to 25 lbs in order to set up clinic sites.3. Must be able to wear all protective clothing, including a respirator mask and gloves.WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally performed in a normal office environment.
