The Bowery Mission meets essential needs and creates transformative community with men, women, children, and families in New York so that we can together overcome homelessness and poverty and flourish. The Bowery Mission's Community Life program represents all residential programming for men and women, including emergency and short-term shelters, long-term residences and transitional housing. In this role, Community Life Supervisor, as part of the Choose Help Team, will supports the client and guest facing services in order to provide safe, welcoming environment for those seeking emergency services, safety and shelter. The Community Life Supervisor will supervise and support Community Life, Choose Help team to establish safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed residential community that fosters positive and growing relationships with God and others, invites guests to Choose Help, and equips clients to make progress toward independent living. Welcome new guests/clients and orient to campus. Utilize a mentoring/coaching approach to ensure guest support of Community Life Guidelines and supervise work assignments for Make Progress clients. Support team to achieve excellence in standards of radical hospitality and physical safety, including fire safety and crisis intervention. Foster effective and supportive collaboration with Clinical and Shared Services teams. This role may support or serve as Campus Leader.Reports to: Senior Community Life Manager & Campus LeaderThis is a full-time position, with the following shift: Tuesday - Saturday 3:00 - 11:30 PM (Sun/Mon OFF)Responsibilities include the following:The Community Life Supervisor will provide direct staff support and supervision to Community Life team. Assist with weekly scheduling and ensure all shifts are adequately staffed. Work with Senior Manager to effectively manage overtime and use of additional temporary/security staffing resources. Provide on-the-job training to staff on general operations, scheduling, safety measures, conflict resolution, etc. Ensure effective practices that foster a safe, welcoming, healthy, and caring living environment. Supervise teams in conducting hourly rounds and required fire safety checks. Reinforce Health & Safety protocols. Monitor cameras and fire safety panels to make sure environment meets standards for physical safety. Conduct required fire drills. Oversee Community Life teams and effectively collaborate with Shared Services to create and achieve standards of excellence in hospitality (cleanliness and building maintenance). This may include hands-on support for team: sweeping, mopping, taking out trash, and other activities. Ensure that all donations are received and tracked properly by staff.Requirements:
  • Embraces the organization's Statement of Faith
  • Highly relational with strong interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, human services, or other relevant area preferred, or a combination of education and additional work experience.
  • 3 years in ministry, non-profit, or human services with supervisory and strong customer service duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow protocol and provide accountability
  • Growing understanding and application of trauma-informed care
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
Preferred:
  • Prior supervisory experience with strong customer service duties
  • Certifications: Mental Health First Aid, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-informed Care, First Aid/CPR, F-80 Fire Safety Certification
  • Understanding of security and safety standards
  • Excellent conflict resolution and reporting skills
