**Event Description** For nearly 40 years, Broadway Community has lovingly prepared warm, healthy, and gourmet multicourse meals for all who hunger - whether in mind, body, or spirit. During the best of times and the worst of times, our soup kitchen has been a live-giving island of stability for thousands of New Yorkers in need.

Abundance is at the center of our soup kitchen's philosophy. We don't just serve calories -- we serve compassion, deliciousness, and dignity. Each meal is carefully prepared by a professional Chef and is completely free. At our soup kitchen, you can always count on being treated like a King or Queen.

**The Mission of Broadway Community, Inc.**

**is to provide emergency food, clothing and shelter to those in need,**

**as well as long-term support aimed at healing the body, mind and spirit.**

**Description**

To accomplish our mission and demonstrate God's love to all, Broadway Community, Inc. will:

* Provide emergency services including a community lunch, packaged food and clothing, shelter, showers, medical examinations, and counseling as well as referrals to other qualified agencies for specialized services in entitlements, welfare, mental health, drug treatment, job training, and legal assistance to all who seek assistance

* Create a community environment where volunteer participants engage in long-term counseling and in life-skill workshops such as work readiness, family relationships, nutrition, and art therapy to help them rebuild their lives

* Provide programs and activities that encourage participants to integrate their own spirituality or religious beliefs into their recovery and build relationships that will sustain their growth

* Educate neighborhood students, residents, and church people about poverty and its long-term effects and actively encourage them to volunteer their time, talents, and resources to the work of BCI and become advocates of the poor and disenfranchised.
