HOURLY RANGE: $18.014 - $23.393DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Performs routine tasks in the care of psychiatric patients in a mental health setting; Participates with other employees in the overall treatment of the patient; Under the general direction of a program manager and the close supervision of a paraprofessional or professional employee of higher rank, participates as an active member in the overall treatment and care of patients suffering from emotional or mental problems; Incumbents may be assigned to a given unit to carry out program activities or provide services for direct therapy or crisis intervention as program needs require; Performs related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Relates to patients on a one-to-one basis and in a group setting to facilitate the achievement of specific treatment goals;Assists patients in adjusting to activities in the hospital or community setting Observes and records patients activities, responses to treatment, and overall physical and mental condition;Assists as a participant in the establishment of a specific patient treatment plan including revision and implementation under close supervision;Assists in recreational and occupational activities related to patient care; assists in giving personal care to patients as required; assists in routine treatments and observations such as taking pulse, respiration, temperature, and recording weights;Observes behavior and reports to the team;Assists in the management of agitated patients including seclusion or restraint when necessary;Assists in coordination of the linking process of patients and community programs;Assists in the care of the unit and clinic equipment and helps to make the surroundings comfortable and attractive;Transports and/or accompanies individuals and families to various agencies and/or appointments;Provides individual therapy and crisis intervention as skills allow under close supervision.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of human relations; Working knowledge of techniques involved in feeding, clothing and caring for patients; Skilled in all aspects of communication; Ability to work with both paraprofessional and professional employees; Good public relations ability; Industry and dependability; Initiative; Emotional maturity; Good physical and mental health.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have graduated from a standard senior high school and in addition one of the following; Either;(a) Completion of two (2) years of college education; OR,One (1) year of full-time, equivalent part-time, or volunteer, semi-skilled,skilled or paraprofessional experience in the care, treatment and rehabilitation of people suffering from mental disabilities; OR,(c) A combination of training and experience equivalent to (a) or (b).
