Feeding Westchester's mission is to nourish their neighbors in the fight against hunger. As a member of the Feeding America network of food banks and Westchester County's leading hunger relief organization, the organization has moved more than 19 million pounds of food to agencies and partners across Westchester County, including food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and schools in the last fiscal year. Feeding Westchester, a $35 million organization, has supplied over 16 million meals to children, families, and seniors, mobilized 3,000 volunteers, and raised over $12 million in donations to help end hunger.

As the heart of a network of more than 200 partners, Feeding Westchester sources and distributes food and other resources to communities across Westchester County. Feeding Westchester envisions a community where all people have access to the food they need today, and the fundamental resources to build a better tomorrow.

THE OPPORTUNITY

With an overarching mission to nourish our neighbor's, Feeding Westchester is deeply committed to alleviating hunger and offering resources to support Westchester County. The Agency Services and Programs team are seeking a full-time Bilingual Community Nutritionist to conduct nutrition related initiatives that support healthy food choices and overall wellness throughout the county. Participants will be all age groups including, youth, adults, and seniors. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Nutrition and Wellness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Providing off-site and on-site nutrition education activities monthly, including nutrition education classes, cooking demonstrations, and policies, systems, and environment (PSE) initiatives throughout Westchester County.
  • Lead all aspects of preparation, implementation, instruction, and take-down for all activities
  • Organize food and materials for each nutrition workshop, including procurement, preparation, and demonstration.
  • Initiate and engage in communication with community partners about class scheduling and organization
  • Transport equipment and supplies to and from activities.
  • Complete data entry and submit monthly reports on nutrition education activities to the program manager
  • Engage in social media/social marketing activities that focus on promotion of health eating and overall wellness
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and/or webinars
  • Plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor
  • Work both independently and collectively to effectively collaborate with the Agency Services and Programs team members, community partners, and neighbors in need.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Nutrition and Wellness

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics/nutrition, public health, or other related fields.
  • Previous experience in community nutrition education, exercise training or other relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to hunger or related social issues.
  • ServSafe Manager Certified, or willingness to become certified within 3 months of employment
  • This position requires extensive travel throughout the county. A Valid NYS driver's license and the ability to meet the travel requirements associated with this position is required
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in Spanish and English
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills as well as an ability to keep information confidential
  • Strong public speaking skills and experience
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Ability to present effective educational lessons to target audiences and work with diverse audiences of all ages
  • Familiarity with preparing foods/culinary experience
  • Ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes, including Microsoft Teams and Zoom for virtual program delivery
  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and navigation with various browsers as well as proficiency including Outlook, Work, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as scheduled
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with staff, board, external partners and donors.
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Resourceful team player, with emotional maturity and ability to be effective independently.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of customer/client service and response.
  • Actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
  • Must have valid driver's license and use of a vehicle to ensure ability to travel independently for Feeding Westchester business.
  • And most important: likes to laugh and have fun!!!

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions, including heat and cold.
  • Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to pack, unpack and put away various materials.
  • Prolonged standing, walking and bending in addition to sitting in front of a computer.
  • Ability to access, research, read, review, enter and retrieve information from computer, hard copies and desk top publishing systems.
  • Ability to give regular communications in person, writing, by email and by telephone
  • Ability to give speeches and presentations to groups.
  • Ability to travel independently in the daytime and evening to regional and national destinations.
  • Ability to access all work sites of the agency.

Working Conditions

  • Travel throughout the Feeding Westchester service area.
  • Ability to work irregular or extended hours.

SALARY RANGE $60,000.00

Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pmOccasional nights and weekends
