For over 30 years, the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) has been the leader in building transformative programs that raise the standard of care for all victims of child abuse, neglect, and sexual assault in Los Angeles County. Today, VIP functions as a public-private partnership between the publicly-funded VIP Children's Medical Village at the LAC+USC Medical Center and our non-profit, the VIP Community Mental Health Center, Inc. (VIP-CMHC). Our history of quality mental health care is due in large part to the dedicated and talented employees whose efforts have helped improve the lives of children, transitional age youth, and their families. POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Communications and Development Director, the Community Outreach Coordinator will oversee VIP's volunteer and community engagement programs which currently include tutoring, mentoring, childcare, and clinical support. This position is responsible for developing partnerships with community agencies, schools, colleges, individuals, and other partners to support VIP and our clients. The Community Outreach Coordinator plays an important role in expanding our community impact by identifying, conceptualizing, and developing new programs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees VIP's volunteer and mentoring program
  • Partners with Staff & Community Engagement Coordinator to assist in community outreach program aimed at increasing client support services and community engagement
  • Manages youth activities in the VIP Education Center
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies and materials for the Education Center
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community-based organizations, schools, colleges, individuals, and other partners to support VIP and its clients
  • Enthusiastically advocates for VIP and inspires high levels of engagement from the community
  • Develops and implements ongoing volunteer recruitment and retention plans
  • Works closely with supervisor(s) to create volunteer policies, procedures, and training curriculum
  • Organizes volunteer orientation sessions that outline VIP's mission and organizational goals, as well as explain volunteer roles, expectations, and procedures
  • Maintains detailed database of volunteers
  • Screens volunteers for appropriate roles and assigns duties accordingly
  • Communicates in a timely fashion with all active volunteers, interns, and community partners
  • Responds to all volunteer and community outreach inquiries in a timely manner
  • Organizes events for clients and families, including but not limited to Back to School, Halloween, and Holidays
  • Prepares quarterly reports for volunteer engagement and accomplishments
  • Communicates with supervisor regularly concerning any program challenges or new projects
  • Coordinates volunteer appreciation events and activities
  • Works closely with supervisor(s) to oversee the cataloging and organization of donated goods
  • Communicates with caregivers to schedule mentoring and tutoring appointments
  • Collaborates with development team regarding VIP messaging and marketing in relation to volunteer and client support services messaging on the website and social media
  • Provide requested data and information to assist with foundation, corporate and government funding prospects for the M&T program or other volunteer positions
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Requirements BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree or four (4) years experience in community outreach, non-profit program management, or similar field
  • Experience working in youth development
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of individuals and organizations
  • Flexibility to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Critical thinker and complex problem solver
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
DESIRED SKILLS
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (Preferred)
  • Prior experience in a mental health setting and/or managing programs for victims of abuse and trauma
  • Excellent data management skills
  • Familiarity with planning events and programs
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities successfully
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, organized individual

Salary Description $52K - $65K annually (Salary Range) DOE
