What you'll do

You'll help improve lives in the communities we serve! Under the general guidance of the Sr. Director, Community & Public Relations, you'll play a key role in leading the development of effective outreach and engagement strategies for the credit union in local underserved communities, with a special emphasis on the San Diego Promise Zone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a strategic plan to drive the credit union's commitment to empower underserved communities through financial inclusion. Identify, track, and reports on key metrics and goals.
  • Identify individuals, organizations, businesses, schools and other potential partners in underserved communities with a focus on the San Diego Promise Zone, cultivating and maintaining trusted, mutually beneficial partnerships to provide Cal Coast support for improving lives in the area.
  • Serve on and support internal Inclusion Council and liaise with VP of Diversity, Equity, and inclusion on initiatives that reflect Cal Coast's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Interact with executive leadership and may serve on strategic internal teams. Work closely with other credit union departments and branch management in helping to engage, serve and build membership growth in their communities.
  • Communicate and demonstrate the credit union's brand, values and service in the community, especially the underserved areas. Develop new opportunities that achieve and support credit union goals through new and stronger relationships with key stakeholders, including the City of San Diego, Promise Zone Steering Committee and the community organization representatives in the Promise Zone working groups which serve over 80,000 residents in the 6.4 mile area.
  • Serve as the key liaison and work closely with the City of San Diego's Promise Zone Manager and Economic Development Department and participate in Promise Zone Steering Committees and related subcommittees.
  • Help to advance financial inclusion by providing financial wellness resources, especially for underserved individuals and communities. Coordinate and support up to 100 financial webinars and workshops for the general public, businesses, schools, colleges and other organizations within the credit union's service area, with special emphasis on the Promise Zone.
  • Create and/or further develop trusted partnerships and key relationships to serve Latino, Black and other diverse youth, community groups and organizations. Participate in civic, social, business and other organizations within or serving the Promise Zone.
  • Responsible for prospecting and acquiring at least two Preferred Partners annually to help drive new membership and deepen business relationships.
  • Participates in planning and execution of special events, including major event sponsorships and branch grand openings. Assists with and supports the development of the credit union's Foundation and its events and activities.
  • Support member service and sales for the credit union's 26 branches, call center, and the credit union's 200,000 members.
  • Influence the perceived value and quality of $3.5 billion brand (organization).
  • Performs other relevant and related duties as required.

Supervisory responsibilities

The position reports directly to the Sr. Director, Community & Public Relations. There are no direct reports to this position.

    • Requires an undergraduate degree in Business, Communications, Marketing or related discipline plus a minimum of five years of progressively more responsible positions within community relations/outreach, business/partnership development or related business or non-profit experience. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
    • Experience developing strategic plans that directly support Cal Coast's values and business plants and priorities, including systems to create and track key metrics and goals.
    • Demonstrated record of successful community outreach and partnership development.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish. Proven public speaking skills.
    • Excellent time management, program planning and organizational skills.
    • Experience working with Microsoft Applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong ability to multi-task and work under time constraints to meet project deadlines.
    • Demonstrated leadership, creative and sales ability and critical thinking skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with the public, all levels of staff, management, and external business contacts and school and college administrators.
    • Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow policies and procedures and accept constructive criticism.
    • Ability to operate standard business machines such as computer, printer, copier, scanner, fax, and telephonic devices.
    • Ability to operate a motor vehicle: requires valid California Drivers License and a clean DMV record.

    Preferred Education, skills, & abilities

    • Working knowledge of financial industry products, services and industry trends.
    • Experience with graphic design software including Canva, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Photoshop, etc.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Excellent ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing; ability to tolerate periods of

    continuous sitting; ability to lift and move approximately 40 pounds.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

    • Work is performed inside and outside the office with extensive business travel/driving required.

    Required to attend frequent meetings/events in evenings or on weekends. Subject to standard

    background noise found in an office environment and during travel time, subject to variable

    weather and traffic conditions.

    Note: Staff is expected to perform various tasks, projects and administrative duties as assigned.

    Management reserves the right to assign or change duties and tasks to this position at their discretion.

    Salary Range (annually)

    $90,560.2880 - $113,200.3600
