The Role:The Frederick Flying Cows professional basketball team internship program is an experience and opportunity like no other in professional sports! As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience and receive tangible real-world experience with direct responsibility in the organization. You will not only receive the opportunity to learn and observe how a startup professional sports organization operates... but also forever be able to say you were a part of the start of the Frederick Flying Cows!The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude and will be open to performing a wide variety of tasks in order to learn about what is required to create, run, and market a professional basketball team and organization. We strongly prefer candidates who are either from or currently living in the Frederick area.Interns are required to work all Frederick Flying Cow home games and all scheduled events, as directed by the General Manager.The internship program is an unpaid position that can be used for college credit. The role is entry level and candidates must be willing to work at a high level in order to successfully fulfill their duties and gain a plethora of experience.THIS IS AN IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITY! Candidates must already reside in the Frederick area and be willing to commute daily or fully relocate to the area.Who are the Flying Cows?The Frederick Flying Cows are a new professional basketball organization that played their first season in the spring of 2024 in The Basketball League (www.thebasketballleague.net). The league regular season runs twenty-four (24) games long from March - May, with 12 home and 12 away games. Playoffs are in June. The league is positioning itself as an alternative option for players who might be playing in professional leagues overseas and are hoping to build their careers towards playing against the highest possible competition. The TBL play is high quality - just a notch below the level of the NBA G-league. Thus far, the Flying Cows have built a successful on-court product as well as a one-of-a-kind brand off the court.What you can expect...We are a small team, meaning our interns will work cross-functionally, be involved in all aspects of the organization, and have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas. With that, the Community Relations/Non-Profit Intern will prioritize all things regarding community events and relations, as well as the Flying Cows Foundation's work with other local non-profits. As the Flying Cows Community Relations/Non-Profit Intern, you may work on the following, but not limited to:Key Responsibilities:
- Help coordinate appearances and participation of players and staff at community events, ensuring effective communication and preparation.
- Assist in tracking participation, donations, and impact metrics related to community programs and fundraising efforts for reporting purposes.
- Coordinate volunteers for community events and game day activities, ensuring all roles are filled and responsibilities are clear.
- Research and identify potential community partners, organizations, and sponsors to enhance the foundation's impact and outreach efforts.
- Assist in promoting community events through social media, newsletters, and other communication channels to increase participation and awareness.
- Collaborate with the team to brainstorm and develop creative fundraising ideas and campaigns to support the foundation financially.
- Attend community meetings and networking events to represent The Flying Cow Foundation and build relationships with local stakeholders.
- Provide general administrative support, including maintaining records, updating databases, and scheduling meetings related to community relations efforts.
Basic Expectations & Requirements
- Actively pursuing a college degree.
- Must be located in the Frederick, MD area.
- Report directly to the General Manager and other Flying Cows staff and fulfill all duties as requested.
- Represent the organization, as needed, at events and appearances.
- Provide excellent customer service to all existing and potential fans.
- Professionally represent the organization at business and community functions.
- Work as a member of the TEAM, and Have Fun!
- Attend all home games and events to ensure great customer service to all fans.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

More about Frederick Flying CowsThe BasketballLeague (TBL), www.thebasketballleague.net, is a six (6) year old league playing throughout North America. In the Spring of 2023, there are 49 teams in the league, with 46 teams in the USA in small to medium-sized markets and another three (3) teams in Canada. The league continues to grow, with a goal of having sixty-four (64) teams in the USA and twenty-four (24) teams in Canada. Frederick Flying Cows is one of about a half-dozen new teams that joined the TBL in 2024. The league regular season runs twenty-four (24) games long from March - May, with 12 home and 12 away games. Playoffs are in June. The league is positioning itself as an alternative option for players who might be playing in professional leagues overseas and are hoping to build their careers towards playing against the highest possible competition. The TBL play is high quality - just a notch below the level of the NBA G-league. The league has already had a few players make it to the NBA.We are a well-prepared group with the goal of building a championship-quality organization! We believe there are three (3) key legs of the stool required to build a quality franchise.
- We need to create and manage a high-quality entertainment product that is appealing to a broad age range. We want TBL basketball home games to be a high-quality, fun, and entertaining event that people, both basketball fans and non-basketball fans, will enjoy.
- We need to put together an excellent basketball team and basketball organization. To this end, we are interviewing head coaches now and hope to hire someone by June of this year so that they will have a full year to build and plan a team.
- We need to build a community organization that is invested in Frederick County. Our goal is for TBL basketball, over time, to be part of the fabric of the community and a team that the people of Frederick are proud of.
As we think about putting together our team, we have broken the operation down into four (3) areas of focus: Basketball Operations, Business Operations, Sales & Marketing. We are looking for interns to assist in all areas of the business.
