Summary of Working as a Community Schools Coordinator
- The Community Schools Coordinator is responsible for working in partnership with their assigned Unit 5 school, community resources, and families to identify students' needs and provide them with the structure and access to resources necessary for student success. Reporting to the Community Schools Supervisor and in partnership with the Community Schools Team, the Coordinator works as a member of assigned school staff, and is assigned an office within the Unit 5 School. Must have Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field, valid driver's license/insurance, 21+. Minimum three (3) years social services/case management experience strongly preferred. Full time, Mon-Fri, 37.5 hrs/week. Hourly/non-exempt, pay based on experience and education. Earn vacation time, personal, and sick as well as generous paid school breaks, based on the Clinical School Calendar.
- WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, 37.5 hours/week Monday - Friday; must be available some evenings to meet client needs. Follows Hammitt Schools' Clinical School Calendar
- Starting pay: equivalent to $45,000 annually, hourly/non-exempt, based on education, experience, and certification/licensure.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS COORDINATOR INCLUDE:
- Assessment: Assesses strengths and identify needs of students and families, initially and throughout the period of service provision. Conduct yearly needs assessments of families and students. Promulgate and maintain school asset map.
- Service/Treatment Planning: Develops new and utilizes existing community resources to meet student and family needs, expand learning time so students can master core concepts and skills, remove barriers to academic achievement and youth development, and align school, community and family resources behind a shared vision for student success. Negotiates agreements with community agencies and individual service providers. Secures agency approvals as appropriate. Conducts home visits with newly registered families and families needing assistance to ensure needs are being adequately addressed.
- Program Coordination: Cooperates with school administrative and agency supervisory staff in planning for and scheduling programming and/or services for the students and/or their families. Plans meetings of resources as appropriate. Develops and works cooperatively with advisory board. Makes recommendations for board membership.
- Community Relations: Builds and maintains positive relationships with students, families, schools, community resources, referral and funding sources, and the general public. Seeks input to determine ongoing needs of students and families. Utilizes community contacts to advocate for student success and to promote child and family well-being. Meets regularly with agency staff, school staff, community partners, advisory board, and other resources as appropriate.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF A COMMUNITY SCHOOLS COORDINATOR:
- Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology or related human services field AND five (5) years of experience working with children in educational, activity or social service programs; OR Bachelor's Degree in unrelated field AND seven (7) years of related experience.
- Bilingual in Spanish required
- Valid Driver's license with adequate insurance and driving record required.
