We are an equal opportunity employer.Community Services Direct Support ProfessionalJob Purpose:The primary responsibility of a Direct Support Professional is to assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals' rights and benefits. Essential Functions:• Ensure ongoing health and safety for the person being supported.• Support, train, and guide people as they socialize, make purchases, volunteer, exercise, or engage in other community-based activities of their choosing, guided by the Person-Centered Planning process.• Provide transportation as deemed appropriate for the day's activities.• Complete online documentation which meets all OPWDD regulations in a timely manner.• Report all incidents to the Program Supervisor and agency QI Team.• Other duties as assigned within scope of practice.Education and Experience:• High school graduate or equivalent; one-year experience in the human service field preferred.• Qualifications:• Valid & current NYS Driver's License• Must have vehicle as job requires transporting people supported via personal automobile and/or agency vehicle.• Familiarity with computers; documentation is web based• No experience necessary, although previous experience in the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities is preferred.• Must be able to complete training to obtain certification to perform Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention -Revised (SCIP-R), CPR, First Aide and AED; and maintain certificationsPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
