Coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies.
  • As our Shelter Rescue Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and organizing our rescue program. You will coordinate the placement of animals with our rescue partners, manage relationships with partner organizations, and ensure effective communication, organization, and response to requests for animal rescues. Your work will directly impact the lives of countless animals, helping them find their forever homes.
  • Our Foster Program Coordinator is crucial to saving lives and preparing pets for adoption. As a Shelter Foster Coordinator, you will play a key role in finding temporary homes for pets in need, supporting foster families, and ensuring the success of our foster program.
The Ideal Candidate:The ideal Rescue/Foster Coordinator has experience working in an animal shelter and understands shelter operations, rescue processes, and animal care. Experience with Chameleon software is desired for managing records and tracking rescues. The candidate has skills in handling different types of animals safely and with care. Additionally, they provide excellent customer service, working effectively with the public, rescue and foster groups, and staff.   • Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City department staffs; coordinates and assists with the management of City services and volunteer programs; counsels and provides assistance and guidance to volunteers and clients, answers daily phone calls, and resolves conflicts or concerns.
  • Plans and conducts a wide range of volunteer recruitment activities; conducts their pre-service and monthly in-service training.
  • Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; recommends, participates in the development, and administers policies and procedures.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for assigned staff; assigns work activities, projects, and programs; reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Routinely adheres to and maintains a positive attitude towards City and Department goals.
Knowledge of:
  • Planning, organizing, and coordinating administrative activities.
  • Interpreting the program policies and procedures to individuals and groups.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:High School diploma or G.E.D.ANDTwo (2) years of major college course work in animal welfare or a related field.ORThree (3) years of animal welfare or community service experience, preferably in a municipal government environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:Possession of a valid California State Driver's LicensePhysical Requirements and Work Environment: When assigned to the Animal Services Department the employee frequently works in extreme outside weather conditions and on slippery and uneven surfaces. The employee is often exposed to dangerous, injured, or diseased animals. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions; fumes or airborne articles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and zoonotic and other communicable diseases. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud within confined areas. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is regularly required to sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle and feel computers and standard business equipment; and reach with hands and arms. Supplemental InformationCITY BENEFITSThe City offers an attractive compensation and benefit package, that includes:
  • Retirement - Participation in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Classic members with less than 6 months separation: CalPERS 2% at 55, single highest year plan. New members, CalPERS 2% at 62, three highest year average plan.
  • Health Insurance - Monthly contribution of $738.00 (Employee Only), $1,450.00 (Employee plus one), or $1,939.00 (Employee plus Family) for health, dental and vision premiums. Eligible employees who waive all medical, dental, vision, supplemental life, and supplemental AD&D benefits will receive an annual Health Insurance Waiver Stipend of $3,500.00 every first paycheck of December.
  • Leave - Vacation beginning at 80 hours after one year, 96 hours of sick leave annually, 13 holidays, plus 18 hours of floating holiday time.
  • Life & Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance - The City provides Term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance.
