General Responsibilities
The Company Officer reports directly to the Commandant of Cadets and has a broad responsibility for managing the daily operations of an assigned regimental company of approximately 200 cadets. The company is the Academy's residential (dorm) community and is a sub-unit of the Regiment of Cadets that includes student leadership positions. A key part of the role of Company Officer is to foster leadership and personal growth among the cadets, supporting their regimental experience through leadership programs and training. The position involves rotating shifts, including overnight, day, and evening duties, and the officer must maintain a high level of professionalism in uniform.
Additionally, the Company Officer position requires an annual 52-day seagoing commitment aboard the Academy's training ship Patriot State during the annual sea term, which is part of the overall cadet experience. The position of Company Officer is ideal for someone dedicated to leadership development in a regimented, military-like setting, emphasizing both the personal and professional growth of cadets.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide leadership and management for one of the Academy's seven residential life units, ensuring a safe and positive experience for approximately 200 cadets.
* Act as an on-call crisis response officer, addressing cadet wellness and behavioral issues.
* Provide early intervention to ensure cadets' well-being.
* Maintain consistent communication with cadets through individual outreach and meetings.
* Serve as a mediator for interpersonal conflicts, helping cadets find resolution.
* Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of upper-class cadet leaders within the company.
* Conduct regular room inspections and provide support to cadets in maintaining uniform and room standards. Guide cadets on meeting academic and regimental expectations and supervise cadet leave and liberty.
* Attend and participate in morning formations (Monday-Friday) at 0715 during the academic year
* Serve in an on-call capacity one night per week throughout the academic year, staying overnight in an on-call suite when required.
* Participate in the Academy's 52-day sea term training cruise (early January to mid-February), with responsibilities that include on-call duty, care, and support of cadets, mirroring on-shore responsibilities.
* Act as a disciplinary officer for the company, conducting hearings and investigations which may result in referrals to class or honor boards.
* Assist in planning and coordinating leadership development programs, orientation, commencement, and move-in/move-out activities, some of which may require evening and weekend involvement.
* Attend professional development and training to stay updated on best practices in student development and wellness.
* Engage with professional associations and collaborate with other company officers to deliver an exceptional student experience.
* Participate in the Academy's random drug testing program and serve as a Clery Act Mandated Reporter to ensure campus safety.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Commandant and/or the Vice President for Student Services
Qualifications and Requirements
* Bachelor's degree.
* Understanding of theories and practices related to student growth, support, and development
* Ability to collaborate with a range of individuals, including professional staff, non-professional staff, and students.
* Strong communication abilities, with a focus on respectful interaction within diverse and inclusive environments.
* Must be able to participate in an overnight on-call rotation on campus, which may involve crisis response and intervention, and responding to a variety of student needs.
* Must be able to participate in the annual 52 consecutive day sea-term aboard the Academy's training ship.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications.
* Red Cross Certification in CPR and First Aid (can be obtained within six months of employment).
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling, or a related field.
* Two (2) years of professional experience working with young adults, with priority given to candidates with experience working in a college/university environment.
* Experience working within a regimental, military, maritime or closely related industry.
* Experience working with higher education information systems.
Salary
$64,000 to $68,000. The Academy offers generous benefits and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is exempt under the FLSA.
