Established in 1963, ASI is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is considered a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 27,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI is engaged in the work of being a learning organization. Currently, the guiding ideas of the organization are under construction as the team re-imagines its vision, mission, and core values. ASI is looking for dynamic team members who value team learning, co-creation, and adaptability to best serve the needs of our students. The Intramural Sports program strives to provide opportunities for the campus community to participate in over 20 different sports in a dynamic, fun, and recreational environment. Approximately 1,200-1,500 students participate in Intramural Sports leagues and tournaments each semester, including Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Flag Football, Softball, Tennis, Badminton, and more. The Intramural Sports Program employs about 60 students annually as Officials, Lead Officials, Assistant Supervisors, and Supervisors. The Sport Clubs program provides high-quality, structured, and competitive activities at a collegiate level that offer its members the opportunity to experience physical, social, and emotional growth. Being a member of Sport Clubs helps students enhance their Bronco experience through the development of leadership skills, team building, and campus pride. All teams are student-run organizations. The membership is in charge of everything from hiring coaches to scheduling practices and coordinating games. The teams have the opportunity to compete against schools across the nation while representing Cal Poly Pomona. POSITION DEFINITIONUnder the general supervision of the Competitive Sports Manager, the Competitive Sports Assistant assists in the daily operations of Intramural Sports and the Sport Clubs Programs, including the work direction for student staff and coordinates with other campus departments that support the operation of Intramural Sports and the Sport Clubs Program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Assist with providing leadership and overseeing Intramural Sports and Sport Club program operations
  • Assist with the administration and advising of all Sport Clubs including annual submission requirements, travel, on-campus activities, leadership development, and program promotion
  • Assist with the effective delivery, evaluation, and reporting of the Intramural Sports Program to include, but not limited to: league, tournament, and event scheduling and implementation; program registration; equipment procurement, inventory, repair, and replacement; field/court preparation and inspection; and participant development and discipline
  • Recommend and enforce policies that provide for the effective operation and risk management of the Sport Clubs Program and Intramural Sports
  • Assist in the preparation, presentation, and implementation of short and long-term goals for the Sport Clubs Program and Intramural Sports
  • Assist with overseeing the work direction of all Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs student staff and assist with the recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, development, scheduling, payroll, and discipline
  • Assist in the management of Intramural Sports and the Sport Clubs Program budgets to include meeting expense and revenue goals
  • Assist with facilitating ongoing assessment, reporting, and strategic planning
  • Prepare and conduct Sport Clubs officer, coach, and advisor trainings and meetings
  • Participate in campus-wide collaborations that serve the overall mission of the BRIC, ASI, and the University as a whole
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in recreation, sports management, physical education, or related field, preferred
  • Minimum two years of progressive experience in collegiate recreation for Sport Clubs and/or Intramural Sports programming.
  • Current American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies (or equivalent) and CPR/ AED for the Professional Rescuer and Emergency Oxygen certifications required within the first thirty days of employment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of national trends and practices in Sport Clubs/Intramural Sports programming
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community
  • Demonstrated commitment to student development and ability to motivate and work closely with students.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, form partnerships, and work effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team
  • Ability to oversee projects, achieve assigned objectives and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional appearance and work conduct
  • Ability to make independent decisions and recommendations

  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)
POSITION SENSITIVITY Based on the duties and responsibilities of this position, this position has been designated to be a sensitive position with access to sensitive data. BACKGROUND CHECK A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can begin employment with Associated Students, Inc., Cal Poly Pomona. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current ASI employees who apply for this position. EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY Employment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is at least 16 years old and of legal status to work in the United States. In addition, the employee must be currently enrolled for at least 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the drop-add period, have a minimum 2.0 GPA (both Cal Poly Pomona and overall GPA) and be in good standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer and winter semesters and for students who have applied for graduation for the current semester. WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend and lift to 45 poundsPosition subject to an occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Annual bloodborne pathogen training is required. The initial training must be completed before the employee is assigned duties that may result in exposure to blood or bodily fluids. Hepatitis B vaccination will be offered after the training.
