SUMMARY: The Complex Environmental Health and Safety Manager provides environmental, health,
and safety leadership and strategic direction by leading the complex's EHS continuous improvement
efforts. Working in conjunction with complex management, this position drives EHS capabilities within the
complex. Responsibilities include formulate a proactive, local EHS strategy that drives the plant, feed mill,
and hatchery to become sustainable, healthy and safe operationally.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Strategically lead complex EHS function as a valuable business partner.
Proactively analyze opportunity for improvements; work collaboratively with leadership to develop,
implement, and measure EHS solutions.
Participate in developing a vision for environmental, health, and safety, which includes continual
enhancement of programs and implementation of new programs within a team environment.
Facilitate the development and maintenance of behaviors, attitudes, and a safety culture that
supports the goals and behaviors and actions of George's and will act as a change agent to
accelerate best practice sharing within the facility.
Direct the EHS programs for the complex; recommend the design and implementation of new
programs to minimize company losses due to incidents; measure effectiveness of programs.
Lead the compliance with OSHA regulations and OSHA/George's Ergonomic program; inspect
machinery, equipment and working conditions to ensure compliance with OSHA; maintain OSHA file
and support documents.
Accompany OSHA inspector on plant inspections; regularly inspect and review complex operations to
assure compliance of all permits, operation, and equipment with state and federal regulations; report
any potential violations and recommends corrections as needed.
Conduct educational and hands-on EHS training with team members, supervisors, and managers.
Assess and accurately communicate the level of risk for observed safety hazards to execute
corrective actions and facilitate the development of long-term strategies for elimination or mitigation of
identified risks.
Analyze incident statistics to establish necessary precautions and changes needed for the complex
EHS; communicates environmental, health, & safety policy and procedure changes to management
personnel.
Conduct safety inspections and procedural audits in the field; take immediate corrective action if
required; review all EHS areas to review policies, determine causes, identify corrective actions and
conducts training in areas such as: ergonomics, emergency response team, lockout/tag out, hazard
communication, and personal protective equipment; investigate EHS related incidents, reviews
incident reports and completes necessary reports for insurance carrier, risk management system and
corporate EHS office.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will have supervisory responsibility.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required
o 9+ years of experience in environment, health, safety, and sustainability management
OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety,
Industrial Technology, or related field with 5 years of related experience.
o Strong knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, hazard communications, accident
investigation and safety training methods)
o Strong math and analytical skills
Preferred
o Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar
certificate
o Experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OSHA VPP, or similar EHS Management
System
