Summary: As the Compliance Associate - Surveillance you will be a part of the team that leads the firm's commitment to placing our client's interests first. The Compliance Associate, Surveillance will actively monitor client accounts and Financial Advisor activity to ensure compliance with FINRA, SEC rules and regulations and BFE policies. This role will act as main point of contact with branch locations to interpret policies and procedures and regulatory rules. Conduct investigations of suspicious activity, recommend corrective action, and develop long-term prevention controls. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible performing trade surveillance and evaluating potential exceptions based on securities laws, regulations, and firm policy.
- Coaching branch and home office staff on policies and procedures to promote compliance awareness
- Collaborate with branch managers and other Compliance and Supervision personnel to address Compliance matters.
- Assist in the development of new exception reports, processes, controls, and tools to help identify exceptions based on securities laws, regulations and firm policy.
- Draft or assist in the drafting of communications to brokers and clients addressing Compliance matters.
- Provide compliance risk and regulatory subject matter expertise.
- Provide written and verbal updates to Compliance managers as needed.
Qualifications:
- Understanding of the application of SEC and FINRA regulations and the need for firm Compliance Policies and Procedures
- Strong regulatory, product, and brokerage knowledge, with an emphasis on mutual funds, annuities.
- Familiarity with automated supervision and surveillance systems
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Ability to adapt to changing work environment, roles, and responsibilities
- Ability to prioritize and resolve complex problems and escalate as necessary
- Expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail
Education and/or Work Experience:
- Minimum Education Required: Four-year college degree in business or related field (BS in Business, Accounting or Finance preferred) or equivalent work-related experience of 7+ years
- Minimum Work Experience Required: 3+ years of financial industry compliance related experience or equivalent work, education, or training.
Licenses/Registration:
- Minimum Required: FINRA Series 7, 24 and 66
Work Environment: This position requires the ability to work in a stationary position for several hours at a time and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally. Some filing is required. The work environment is an air-conditioned, smoke-free, office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
