Job Summary

The Compliance Specialist will assist in the day-to-day development, coordination and oversight of the Compliance Program for Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) and the affiliates it supports. The position has oversite responsibilities for multiple MVHS service lines.

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance programs for MVHS meet the elements of an effective compliance program.
  • Investigate identified compliance incident(s), investigate, document, initiate corrective action, report to regulatory agencies, internal committees or departments, communicate to appropriate parties, and close incident.
  • Oversee exclusion screening process throughout the organization and ensure follow up on individuals and vendors as identified.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities for organizational compliance, develop process recommendations, implement and monitor.
  • Collaborate with management and leadership teams, provide guidance, consultation and direction in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Research, audit and monitor regulatory requirements, collaborate with departments and leaders to identify, mitigate and achieve compliance.
  • Develop reports, analyze trends, present data for compliance related event(s).
  • Design training courses and present material on compliance and privacy related topics.
  • Ensure changes in regulations, policies and procedures are communicated to appropriate parties.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Baccalaureate degree in healthcare administration, a related degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of compliance experience in healthcare.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Corporate Compliance, Audit, Legal, Privacy, or Information Security.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal and state statues, regulations, accrediting body standards and requirements.
  • Experience with case investigations management and compliance hotline management preferred.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations.

PREFERRED:

  • Competency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Knowledge of physician group practice, acute care, long-term care, home health and/or managed Medicaid program operations preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements

PREFERRED:

  • Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), or related certification.
