Under the direction of the Administrative Services Lieutenant, the Compliance specialist is tasked with ensuring the Detention Center is in compliance with various standards to include New Mexico Counties (NMC), Federal Performance Based Detention Standards (FPBDS), and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). The position will inspect, monitor, gather and prepare proofs to ensure accreditation/re-accreditation process and ensure compliance with accreditation requirements.ESSENTIAL DUTIES.
  • Develops, organizes and accurately maintains all accreditation files required for facility accreditation and/or reaccreditation; prepares and maintains documentation by reviewing and organizing submittals, analysis and activity reports.
  • Develops action plans to address areas of non-compliance.
  • Monitors corrective action plans to determine if they appropriately address the problem and will eliminate identified deficiencies or areas requiring corrective action.
  • Recommends updates of facility policies and procedures and other documents annually or as needed in accordance with accreditation requirements and changing standards to ensure they are complete, accurate and up to date.
  • Serves as liaison and contact person for accreditation representatives to facilitate open flow communication and dissemination of information as required.
  • Completes and submits required accreditation compliance reports and surveys to the lieutenant of Administrative Services, Captain of Administrative Services, Facility Director and/or accrediting bodies as required or requested.
  • Ensures that each employee is aware of all standards that affect or apply to his/her assigned area of responsibility and receive training on how to demonstrate compliance with all standards connected to the employee's duties and responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Performs other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS.A. Education. Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, Human Services, or related field.B. Experience. Two (2) years of full-time experience work relating to corrections and/or accreditation, compliance and auditing. Familiarity with NMC, AJA, ACA accreditation standards is highly desirable. Bilingual preferred.C. Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County policy.D. Licenses/Certifications.E. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Driver's licenseKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:Knowledge of organization structure, functions, procedures and policies related to the criminal justice system. Community organizations and social services, prevention and crisis services programs. Federal, state and county laws, code regulations and safety rules pertaining to the operation of a detention center. Interpreting and applying pertinent federal, state and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Skills in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and PowerDMS software. Ability to model professional, creative problem-solving behaviors and attitudes toward detainees and staff. Implement goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient services. Make oral presentations to large groups; communicate effectively in oral and written form. Handle sensitive matters in order to maintain confidentiality of personal information on inmates and detainees; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.Compensation Range$23.57 - $38.98Doa Ana County is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
