The OpportunityTC Energy is evolving to meet the needs of our growing Power & Energy Solutions business and we are expanding our presence in Houston, Texas.We are seeking a motivated, self-starting Compliance Specialist to support TC Energy's growing commodity trading and marketing business. This individual will report to the Compliance Manager and provide compliance support to our electricity and natural gas trading groups. Primary responsibilities include oversight of front office trading functions and execution of applicable compliance programs. The successful applicant will conduct continuous communication and contact with the regulators, market monitors and agencies.What you'll do
  • Compliance oversight of front office commodity trading and marketing activities
  • Administer and execute TC Energy's commodity marketing compliance program
  • Perform routine and as-necessary compliance training for front office staff
  • Complete regulatory reporting requirements in the US and Canada
  • Analyze complex structured commodity transactions for compliance risk
  • Liaise between front office staff and TC Energy's Corporate Compliance group
  • Provide compliance expertise, analysis and support for front-office staff on a real-time basis
  • Monitor and analyze trends and changes in regulatory and compliance requirements; assess impacts of regulatory matters applicable to TC Energy's Power, Storage and Commercial Marketing team
  • Act as a first point of contact with regulators, market monitors, agencies and quasi-regulatory entities
  • Contribute or lead regulatory filings, including liaising with legal, risk and accounting departments
  • Other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • University degree in Economics, Management/Business, or other related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a compliance role with direct experience in US energy commodity markets.
  • Proven ability to work directly with trading and marketing staff to administer the compliance program
  • Strong understanding of any of the following is prerequisite:
    • physical power trading
    • physical gas trading
    • financial commodity trading
  • Strong understanding of trading risk controls
  • Strong understanding of Dodd-Frank/CFTC or Canadian Securities Administrators swaps and derivatives reporting requirements
  • Strong understanding of FERC reporting requirements
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to create and sustain critical partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and a strong ability to develop effective networks
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience in physical or financial energy commodity (power or natural gas) trading is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with swap/derivative reporting and dealer requirements
  • Experience with trading exchanges, ETRM systems, and surveillance monitoring applications
  • Direct Experience in FERC, CFTC or Canadian Security Administrators compliance requirements
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Working knowledge of applications such as Power BI, Alteryx, Power app or SAP
  • Strong organizational skills with the capability to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously
  • Advanced analytical ability to gather and evaluate complex information obtained from a variety of sources
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve complex and ambiguous issues
