Performs all duties entailed with producing a marketable compost material. Conducts site maintenance. Provides frontline customer service by providing general information regarding Hernando County Solid Waste Management services, products, programs, and activities to the general public, vendors and other County departments. Examples of Duties
- Composting operations including temperature data collection, building windrows, turning windrows, screening material, moving product on-site as necessary, loading customer vehicles and trailers with finished compost and mulch products, and bagging finished compost.
- Operates various site equipment to perform regular daily activities, equipment includes but may not be limited to a loader, tractor, turner, screener, grinder, bobcat, and water truck.
- Performs preventative maintenance and minor repair on the Composting Facility's heavy equipment and specialized equipment and machinery. Routine maintenance includes but may not be limited to checking oil and fluid levels, checking tire pressure, checking belts, greasing loaders, changing, and blowing off equipment filters.
- Maintains the compost work pad to ensure proper flow for stormwater drainage.
- Maintains stormwater control ditches and water retention ponds.
- Maintains access roads leading to and from the Compost Facility.
- Maintains all site signage.
- Provides litter control, including collection of blown litter generated from the landfill. Responsible for overall site cleanliness and upkeep.
- Monitors all incoming materials to ensure they are acceptable.
- Answers customer questions related to Organic Materials Composting Facility policies and products.
- Conducts material inventory.
- Conducts housekeeping on all Compost Facility buildings.
- Identifies and reports safety concerns to supervision.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Emergency Response County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description. Typical QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
- One (1) year experience with dual-axle equipment.
A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.Licenses, Certifications or Registrations
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida CDL, Class A and be insurable by current insurance carrier.
- Obtain certification as a Solid Waste Spotter.
- Must possess or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment, certification in NIMS/Incident Command Courses IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800.
- Must possess or be able to obtain within 18 months of employment, Solid Waste Association of North America Manager of Compost Operations or US Compost Council Certified Compost Operations Manager.
