Position Purpose: The Comptroller is responsible for maintaining the accounting records of the tribe in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and program guidelines. This involves working closely with program directors, the Chief/Tribal Administrator, the Director of Finance, various banking institutions, state and federal agencies and others. The Comptroller is responsible for compiling and submitting financial reports, as well as providing documentation as required for the annual audit. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain computerized financial accounting system. Review, correction, and approval of Accounts Payable. Reviews Vendors in Sam.gov. Performs Positive Pay function with bank. Tribal Government Intercompany Invoicing to Tribal Enterprises. Remote Deposit Capture of checks. Bank reconciliations. Credit Card reconciliations. Provide technical liaison with credit card machines. Prepare or assist in preparation of budgets; measure actual performance against prepared budgets; modify or assist in modification of budgets when necessary. Work closely with Program Managers and Department Directors. Review and recommend, on a periodic basis, the Accounting Procedures. Prepare and submit required financial reports to government agencies. Maintain organized files of financial and other related data for all programs. Allocate expenses for employee insurances, state unemployment tax, workers' compensation insurance, and other items, as necessary. Prepare payroll allocations. Prepare 1099s. Request adequate funds to meet disbursement needs by following guidelines established by the applicable government agencies. Provide protection for the assets of the tribe by establishing and maintaining adequate internal controls, auditing, and inventory. Compile financial reports, trial balances, schedules, and other documents for the annual audit. Maintains Fixed Assets files in accounting system. Coordinates annual inventory of Fixed Assets. Other duties as assigned.RequirementsEducation and Experience: Bachelor's Degree with a major in accounting. At least 10 years' previous experience in an accounting position preferred. Experience may be substituted for education. Experience with Sage Intacct accounting system preferred. Experience in fund accounting preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Organizational and record-keeping skills are necessary for accurate maintenance of files, correspondence, and follow-up. Knowledge of GAAP. Proficiency with MicroSoft Office.Certifications: Valid Driver's License and Insurance.Conditions of Employment:The Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma operates a drug-free workplace.
